conkers

my dd and I have collected a handful of conkers today so I just want to check what you do with them? We are going to make a necklace... they are fairly small sized and we've got some beads which she can thread too. I remember dd's yoga teacher sharing one with the kiddies which her son had made.

I've read on some sites to soak the conkers in vinegar. Others suggest baking them for a few mins. One said both. I guess these tips harden them up?

I thought that was just for playing conkers with them. I am planning just to make holes in them with a screwdriver. Would like to use a better tool but it's what we can find.

I banged them through with a nail before getting out the drill .

I did bake them in the oven. The first lot I soaked in vinegar first. I think this just hardens them. Anyways, dd threaded them on to ribbon, along with some beads, and she is delighted with them. We made a couple for friends too. A successful afternoon of fun .
