Crochet: missing 3 chains?

Bumperslucious · 19/02/2009 21:08

I'm crocheting a scarf and the pattern says to miss 3 chains but I can't remember what counts as chains to miss. So I've got the loop around my hook, then that loop goes into another loop. Does that loop count as the first chain that you count to skip, or do you skip it anyway then miss the next 3?

I can't remember what I did last time, or whether it was even right.

Thanks in advance!

oh, lovely, can't help, but I just knew this would be you without reading the name

I hope you get some wise help soon.

Actually must pick up some crochet again....I did a huge beadspread in muted pastels when I was a teenager and lined it and everything and it was lovely. Very boho chic circa 1987 when everything was all lines and geometric angularness.

\i don't think you count the loopon the hook. I am crap at following crochet patterns, so tend to do a swatch first to check it doesn't mysteriously shrink or grow

Hey daisy! Am I that obvious, you seem to be able to spot my posts a mile off!.

Thanks effie, does the first loop - not the one on the hook - count as the current stitch? I'm gettin all confused!

The nice thing about crochet is that as long as you keep on doing the same thing consistently it doesn't really matter.
Make a decision and then keep counting the same way, you'll be fine.

Agree with Jemart, but the loop on your hook doesn't count as a chain. Is this the first turning chain from a foundation row before a double/treble?

Don't count the loop on your hook as a chain.
