I have loads of odd balls of double knit, what can I do with it?

I haven't done any knitting for years, but have today dug out what wool I have. There are lots and lots of odd balls of dk, it would be nice to use it up, but how? My dc's are primary school age, so are past the baby blanket stage.

Any ideas crafty ladies?

Hats/gloves/stripy scarves? If you did stripes of three colours you could make them all matching, even.

Our local primary schools or secondary will do knitting classes or put an ad in your local newsagent. Lots of people will knit for Charities i.e. small jumpers, hats etc.

or if you're near Bicester, Oxon. I'll have them and pass them on to my mums sewing group who also knit jumpers and hats to send to children in 3rd world countries.

join ravelry as you can then search their database of free patterns by yarn type. I found some great projects to do with my leftovers

Prumers - looks good, I've never used circular needles though.

Off to look at ravelry.

ooooooh wingandprayer - am so excited and yet so frustrated - I have to wait 4 days for an invite. I love the idea of organising my yarn after today's sort out.

I emptied out my knitting basket to someone requesting yarn for charity knits on Freecycle.

what about making baby blankets for the local hospital for scbu or just babies that come to stay?

ZoeC · 24/02/2009 15:47

Dolls clothes?

PuddingChops · 24/02/2009 15:47

Twims - would a hospital really use donated hand-knitted blankets?

Littlefish · 24/02/2009 15:49

A friend sent me a link to this forum on Moneysavingexpert. Might be just the thing for using up old wool, and supporting others in the process.

Twims · 24/02/2009 16:13

You could give them a call but when my cousin was in hospital he had a home made blanket in his crib - that we hadn't provided.

Little fish - is your name to do with the Behinf the child blog - just found it and love reading it - if not please ignore me

woolly balls - 2 rings of cardboard, wrap the wool around and around, carefully cut all the way round between the 2 cardboard rings, tie off tightly and remove cardboard.
