am making a simple dress for a friend's dd out of orange fleece. I want to decorate it with a scrap of red material I have, cut into a flower shape on the front

my mum says red and orange together will look 'bloody horrible'. I think it goes in a clashing colours, lively 3 year old kind of a way

is she right, is it hideous, and have I no taste?

I think starting from a 3yo in fleece dress with big flower perspective it will look fine

I would not wear red and orange it but then I wouldn not wear said dress

well no Mrs Badger quite

we are past wearing fleece pinafores

I think kids can wear all kinds of fun colours before they have to wear compulsory High School Musical T shirts and jeans but am worried that friend will think I am not maverick child stylist but colourblind loon

I think red and orange is lovely. Loud and vibrant... nothing wrong with that. They're very similar colours too (close on the colour wheel) not brash clashing colours. All personal taste I suppose though...

sounds grand to me

Just don't put any pink in the mix or I'll have to get my style police on to you

Lovely.

I put my 2-year-old in red, orange, pink, purple - you can cary off a fabulous mash of colours with aplomb when you're small.

my "colours" are autumn which include red and orange, as long as they're the right tone and the red isn't too pink and more orange they'll be great. I'm loving this orange/green spate of colours for girls, yah boo to pink!

I think our parents generation had more set ideas on what colours when together - like redheads being told not to wear pink or red!

I see nothing wrong with orange and red for a child's dress - she will probably love it!

ah interesting fubsy because my mum says 'you won't like her in red' about my dd because she has gingery blonde hair

actually she looks great in red, and she loves to wear it.

you are all lovely and I am going to make the damn thing
