hi. id love some tips on how any mothers who love art manage to carry on making. i dont seem to have any time or space. im considering putting my youngest in childcare just so i can make in piece and quiet but the other issue is lack of space! id love to get a shed to use as a studio but dont know where to start! i would love to be able to paint, draw, take photos and make textiles things maybe even sell them on the internet. has anyone managed to do this succesfully if so how? thanku

evenings are my secret, as soon as the kids are in bed, i spend the evening sewing (have the advantage that dh also works in the evenings too, so at least he's not bleating on about being ignored!)

My DS is 3 and I have only just been able to get the craft stuff out again... I used to be a prolific crafter and I have really missed it but been too overwhelmed/exhausted to do anything in the evenings. Now DS goes to bed its easier...

I am lucky and my house is quite big, we have a study and a utility room that DS does not go in really so I have space there. So I can have the sewing machine set up and paint dying safely etc.

A shed would be good if you have garden space... but would need
rigging up with electricity and a heater.

I have a friend who sells playmats on ebay but she gets up at 6am to sew for an hour before her baby wakes. Im not as organised or motivated as that.

i havent got a study or a utility room but i think a shed would be good as i have lots of garden space. im not good at all in the mornings so that wouldnt work!

I go to a knitting club with DS (2.5) - he plays with the other children (there;s normally a couple) while we knit and chat. If the children kick off one of us referees and we take it in turns so we get a chance to create withiotu being too neglectful!
I also use my evenings doing stuff like knitting, hand sewing and quilting - I can do that while talking to DH or watching telly. FInally I knit while I am commuting to work.

i sew in the evenings and am considereing taking up knitting

I store everything on top of the tumble dryer in a big box and get it out when kids in bed

tis impssoble when they are awake as they want to do stuff

I also knit with DS when he's having his quiet time after lunch - he plays or cuddles up with me and CBeebies for 20 mins or so and I get my needles out!
