have a lot of lavender and want to make sachets - where can i get the little cloth bags?

Could you not use a square of fabric and gather it up around the lavender, tying it with ribbon.

No sewing required...always a bonus!

I think that lavender is usually sold in little calico drawstring bags. These can be fairly complicated to make (sideseams and a channel for the drawstrings).

I often make cosmetic products in my Science Club, and tend to just use a large square of gauzy material, pulled up into a pouch with a ribbon for a drawstring.

Could you use baby muslin cloths? You can get them cheap in ASDA?

How about using organza gift bags?

if the lavender is fresh you could make wands woven with ribbon

Are you wanting them for gifts or just to smell nice?

If the latter, I've used outgrown baby socks quite successfully - just sew up the top!

you don't need to make bags with drawstrings - just stitch two squares of muslin together and then fill with lavender flowers before finishing off the small gap you have left by hand. The aroma will last for around a month, after which time you can simply crush the lavender cushion in your hands and it will refresh the scent. When this method stops working simply add two drops of lavender essential oil to the sachet (through the muslin). Remember to let the oil dry thoroughly before returning the sachet to the drawers/linen cupboard otherwise the oil will stain your clothing/sheets etc.

On a similar note, where would I get lavender from cheaply? Is it too late for it? Could I get it at a florist and is it expensive?

my lavender is a mix from my garden plus some we brought back from hols in south of france

you might try the hop shop this is a lavender farm in kent we have visited.

Thanks bossy kate. So if you buy dried lavender now how long will it last? If you make lavender bags now would they be ok for Christmas?
