I need an alternative to coins for a coin rubbing craft activity for under 3s

Dd has recently really been enjoying making coin rubbings - coin under the paper, wax crayon scribbled on top; voila - a pretty picture.

I run the craft activities at our local toddler group and would like to do rubbings one week, but don't want to let other people's children loose on coins - bit of a choking hazard.

Any ideas for an alternative?

bark? Still on the tree - or maybe some chopped up logs?

Ahhh... y'see I've been wandering around the house trying to think of things to use.

I could raid the garden!

That none slip matting,
bamboo like sun mats,
a block of lego bricks

you can buy plastic shapes to rub.

why not just put a selection of objects out and then see what makes good thngs to rub - discuss with the children

leaves

string under the paper

bottom of shoes

bark
