I always spoil my knitting with untidy seams when joining. What's the secret ?

I am a very amateur knitter. I have just finished a little jumper for DS4. I have attached one sleeve but the seam looks gappy and untidy. What am I doing wrong?

The Debbie Bliss book "Baby Knits for Beginners" has got details of how to stitch on different types of stitches and seams to each other. Nice big pictures too.

also it is amazing what a little blocking can do - basically give your jumper a little wash, squeeze it out and pat it out flat, leave it to dry - it will look 100x better!

agree with all the suggestions - also different types of seam (at end of rows or cast-on-edge to cast-on-edge require different treatment)

also don't seam too tight
