I'm having trouble understanding the instructions on this pattern and wondered if someone could explain it to me.

Part of the dress is made up of a textured knit pattern which is basically 4 rows as follows:

R1 & 2: K to end
R3: P1, K1,P1, rep from to end
R4: K1, P1,K1, rep from to end

There is a point in the pattern which says work 14 rows in textured stitch. I understand this to mean do R1-4 times 3 then do 2 rows of R1&2 which adds up to 14 rows.

However, the next part of the pattern for shaping armholes says:

R1: K1,sl1,K1,psso, patt to last 3 sts, K2tog,K1
R2: Patt
Rep rows 1 & 2 to 73 sts.

This seems straightforward but the problem I have is looking at the finished picture of the dress it looks as though the textured pattern is being used for the whole of the top part but this doesn't fit with the above instructions as the textured pattern has 4 rows and the above only has 2. What am I missing here?! Can someone advise/help?

the instructions mean you are decreasing stitches at the side to make the armhole. So ou work 14 rows in pattern ie your last row was r2 of the pattern. Then the next row, you decrease two stitches, one at either side, while working r3 of the pattern. The next row you just follow the pattern, ie r4. Then you decrease again, working r1, and so on, until you've decreased all you need to.

Does this make sense?
