Hello everyone,

I've just started knitting. This might be a daft question,.but how do I keep track of stitches in a row? I get using a marker to keep track of the rows but what about stitches?

I currently need to knit in the round and 100sts... How do I keep track? I keep having to go back and count which takes ages

I place stitch markers if I have to keep count.

Do you mean when you've done 100 st? Or 10, 20, 30 etc? I just use a stitch marker then I know where the row starts and ends. If you want to keep count you can put one after every 10 st (or more). If you do this, make sure you use a different colour for the end of the row one.
Is this what you meant or have I misunderstood?

Stitch marker where the first round ends and second round starts. Push button row counter and push the button each time the stitch marker comes round. That way I know exactly how many rows I have knitted.

I also have these numbered ones

Sorry, that was for counting rows. As already suggested, I put a stitch marker in every 10 or 20 stitches, so I can keep track.

And these cheap ones

Okay thanks everyone. Yes it's more about counting stitches within the rows/rounds. I kept losing count and having to count back from 100!

I'll continue with markers every 10 or so as others have said. Making the Oslo hat by Petite Knit. Thanks all for your help

I’ve knitted a couple of those hats. As others have said, just use a stitch marker for the beginning/end of the round.

I use this type of stitch marker, usually placing one every 20 then a different colour to mark the 100th, 200th etc stitch. They're great, cheap and sturdy, don't catch on my knitting and can be as safety pins (to hold a few stitches for example), clipped to each other for convenience and used for many other purposes. I have many in lots of colours.
