Has anyone done a Duckworth quilt? If so, how did it turn out?

No, but I like the idea. It would probably need a lot of thought to get it to look effortlessly artistic.

I haven’t done one, but I think it would probably work best if you base it on a defined colour palette to make it cohesive rather than a mad jumble.

Yes I’ve just done something similar with blue and white reclaimed shirting fabric for my Dad, a 91 year old Wednesdayite! I’ve got quite a lot of wine, coral and beige fabric bits I’ve got my eye on with this in mind!

Is the stitching that holds the layers together different to say a log cabin quilt?

You mean the actual quilting? The loosely-based one I’ve done I just backed with a fleece blanket and quilted in the ditch and diagonally across the blocks.

I’ve not made this but have done other scrap quilts. I’ve learned (and read in scrap quilting books) the way to get it looking good is either a small colour palette or all the colours. I made Wanderer’s (gypsy) wife with a zillion fabrics and that turned out well.

No but I like the idea - I've got enough scraps! I have done a small Manx quilt which is similar but hand sewn.

What makes a quilt a Duckworth quilt?

I had to Google Duckworth Quilt but, yes, I have made a couple I just didn't know they were called that. For my double bed sized one I used a limited colour range for each block with a 'fussy cut' bird in the middle. The other one was a throw to protect the sofa from the dog and was shades of blue.
