I don't but seeing your thread title reminded me of a bizarre but interesting thread which was on here must be well over a year ago about making soap using bm.

Blandmum · 17/06/2008 20:58

Some one did it, I'm sure and sold it on Ebay....or am I hallucinating?

expatinscotland · 17/06/2008 21:01

No, you're not hallucinating. I think it was 'fastasleep'. Was it true? Did she actually make it?

don't remember the selling it bit but do remeber being somewhat fascinated by the whole thing. Must try and see if i can turn it up in archives...

expatinscotland · 17/06/2008 21:06

i'm looking at some sites, but a lot of them are American - different sources for supplies.

darn, am rubbish at hunting out old threads, can't seem to find it. I think she did actually manage to make it, involved a lot of ebm if i remember correctly. Oh well if anyone reading this manages to hunt it out think i'd prob have a skim through as curiousity peaked again now...

breastmilk soap aside, does anyone make it now?

and if so, where you do you source supplies?

I made some years ago as a college project. I got the ingredients at a chemist shop and the receipe from a library book. I used some chocolate moulds for setting it in.

Not sure that would be the best way to make it on any kind of scale though. Plus college didn't like it saying we couldn't use it given that it hadn't been tested and they couldn't be responsible for the safety of the product.

expatinscotland · 17/06/2008 23:46

Oh, I'd just be doing it for a hobby, not on a big scale, but just for fun.

Well try your local chemist shop, I was amazed at the things they had. I also made lip balm using beeswax flakes and rose water which the chemist had in stock. Ring around a few and see if they have the ingredients in stock.

Aromantica (google it) are very good - sell all sorts of bits for making soaps and creams. It is a bit adictive though! Very satisfying making your own cream with no nasties!

expatinscotland · 18/06/2008 11:23

thanks!

no chemists shops out here - out in the sticks so need to order online.

I make and sell soap, which is complicated business I can tell you!

I did make bm soap, still do for the kidlets, it's great for theur skin..

I've never made melt and pour because I prefer the traditional methods of cold and hot process soap

google The Soap Kitchen too
