Can you help? I want to make the cushion on p52 of this month's Simply Knitting but dont want to fork out for the fancy dancy organic wool - it says you need 6mm needles and 5.5 mm ones too. The tension is 16sts and 22 rows to measure 4ins square using 5.5mm needles - any ideas?? I'm looking for something quite funky btw. Thanks

Something like the dolly maxi here, you have to scroll down.

Most wools these days state on the paper band the optimum needle size and a tension square giving the number of stitches and rows of stocking stitch for a measurement. You just need to pick a wool with similar needle sizes/tension.

well, this wool works: maya and is on sale

this is close elle chunky
this is 16st per 10cm wendyfusion
so is this debbie bliss soho

lots more if you search aran weight wools

That tension indicates an aran wool. Have a browse through that site, there are loads of aran weight wools for a very good price on there.

hi ranting!

Hello Florence (sorry for the hijack), was thinking about you the other day. Are you well?

florenceuk · 26/05/2008 20:23

yes, have done very little this bank holiday! I am chugging along on my turtle (slowly)...

ranting · 26/05/2008 20:25

Oh!! Are there pics? I remember you mentioning that before.

florenceuk · 27/05/2008 08:45

not yet. Just head to go and then sewing and stuffing. Can I just whipstitch the edges together?

ranting · 27/05/2008 20:00

Hate sewing and stuffing. Yes if it's curved I would whipstitch, it will hold better.

thanks for the advice everyone - vgood luck w the turtles!
