Want to make my own clothes but not look like a sack

I used to make my own clothes - did dressmaking at school so used to be able to do zips, buttonholes, darts etc. But haven't done any for a long time. I'd like to have another go, especially tops - but I don't like baggy/shapeless lagenlook type clothes. Any suggestions for patterns? Back in the day it was all Vogue Misses and Simplicity but I don't know if they are still worth buying. Thanks.

Style arc is good! The instructions are sparse but you can find plenty of videos on you tube.

I've a few Ellie and Mac patterns as they have videos showing you how to do them but I had less basic skills than you do.

I have no specific pattern brands to add, OP, but good luck! I'd love to have skills like yours, and to make my own clothes!

I’m a huge fan of Pattern Emporium, they have a great Facebook community which I find really inspiring.
