That wont cost the earth? Ive asked a few of the drycleaners here/tailors they are so expensive.
Id try to learn myself but havent the time with 2 year old and newborn.
Just want to make a very simple smock type dress for myself - bit like a pinafore.
I live in north london n8

any ideas?

Do you have a local art college or school? They might do one for you and have photos as part of their portfolio?

there may be polish dressmakers? i know my friend uses some in west london.

i did dressmaking class in kentish town (camden evening courses), very good for when you do get the time in about a decade.

It's been there about 6 months?? Maybe more, it's called SEW, and I think it's between rubadub and the guitar shop. They may be too expensive, but worth a try. Otherwise try the back of Drapers Record (magazine), which they sell in the newsagents opposite (and nearer the clocktower) Soup Dragon. Have you got a pattern for the dress? Is the fabric cut out?

looks like a good shop for other things like trouser alterations too - thanks for pointing it out, i would have never seen it!
