what does this mean, could someone translate please

The numbers in brackets refer to the size you are making. If you are making the smallest size you increase one stitch each end on every 4th row, if you're making the next size increase one stitch on each end of every 6th row and so on.

I usually go through a pattern and highlight all the numbers for the size I'm making.

Where there is a '-' it just means don't do the step in that size.
