I want to make the Cheeky Monkey sweater (lovely) in this months Knitting magazine but with cotton instead of Cashmerino - is DK cotton ok and if so what size needles? THe pattern recommends 3,25mm and 4mm needles and tension is 20sts and 30 rows over 10cm

I am a relative beginner knitter btw

Thanks

what is the tension on dk cotton? I would have thought that is the most important thing -have you got a pattern that gives you that detail and prob also has recommended needles for that.

Is the cheeky monkey sweater the one with pictures on? if so its super cute but be warned that in my experience you go off picture or complex pattern things very rapidly as have to concentrate so hard (or maybe that is my pea like brain which likes to knit whilst watching junk tv)

Don't forget that cotton will be heavier than the Cashmerino, which may cause the jumper to sag.
Why not try a cotton mix? Something with wool or acrylic in it would help the cotton to keep its shape.
Check out www.yarndex.com. It has lots and lots of info about yarns, including gauges so it can be really good for helping you to sub.

Thansk - cotton mix is the way to go by the sounds of it - will check out the site.
