Handmade present for DH

I can knit, sew (a bit!), and am willing to have a go at anything really to make DH a present for his birthday next month. Money is a bit tight so I was hoping to make something that'll not cost too much, any ideas would be gratefully received!

are you near a pottery cafe type place where you could decorate something, mug, plate, even a clock face ?

sparkymummy · 13/04/2008 19:22

Thanks MAS, might give that a go, anyone got any sewing ideas as well as am really trying to teach myself how to use my new machine and need an excuse to get it out!

make him a gym bag ?

Like MaryAnnSingleton's post, pottery is good: i painted dh a teapot (he does like his tea!) saying 'to the worlds bestest daddy ever' at the top and then (you may wish to vomit here) round the bottom 'every little cup of tea is a little kiss from me!' and it was a little countryside scene with bumblebees eveywhere round the top: dh loved it!!!!

Teapot sounds great, although my artistic talent doesn't stretch as far as you. I'm hardly one to worry about vomit, as I made him a hot water bottle cover (I know, sounds like he should have a pipe and slippers and a bag of werthers!!) with a few lines from our first dance at our wedding stitched on "to keep you from the cold!"

Is a quilt too advanced?? It would be like creating a family heirloom.

sparkymummy · 13/04/2008 19:43

That would be ace, I only have limited time though, could you point me in the direction of instructions for a very quick and easy one?

this???

I'm no expert - I'm sure someone on here will know more. I just love the idea of sleeping together under something you've made with love. You can even use special fabrics - DC's old clothes, wedding dress fabric etc.

yousaidit · 13/04/2008 19:54

can you cheat, get some slippers from somewhere and embroider them?

yousaidit · 13/04/2008 19:55

Dh is vey enbvious of the waterbottle cover...
