I love cross stitch and I'd like a new project!

Not done any for a couple of years when I finished a Bothy Threads scandi tree. I really enjoyed it and I think it's a great way to have a bit of mindfulness and relaxation.

I'm finding it hard to find a project I really want to do. I'd like something contemporary rather than cutesy. Ideally I'd love to find a project I could hang over my bed or somewhere in the house, like a piece of artwork that looks simple and stylish. The cute dogs and cats and cottages stuff isn't quite right for my house.

Any ideas anyone?

Have you looked on Etsy? Some really nice ones there.

Or there are websites that will convert a picture to a kit.

You could also venture out into embroidery- some beautiful projects on Etsy too.

Caterpillar cross stitch or Emily peacock designs are a bit more modern and less cutesy!

Or venture into Bargello - ohsewbootiful & the Bargello Edit do great kits for wall hangings

On the Wool Warehouse website they often have a sale on with lots of cross stitch kits.

Back in the Dark Ages, for my 21st birthday, a neighbour did a pair of cross stitch panels for me. They are stunning, done in black and silver - simple designs of a medieval knight and his lady each with their dog, I believe the neighbour created the image herself from a brass rubbing.

Have a look at longdog samplers on their website - they do a lot of crazily intricate / involved designs... I've got death by cross stitch all printed out and ready to go when I'm finished with my epp quilt

I'd also recommend dipping a toe into the world of stamped cross stitch. Lots of kits around online, they don't require quite as much concentration as counted cross stitch as all you're doing is stitching over the pattern. Once you've finished, you wash the canvas and the printing comes off.

Try this company:

I love the Christopher Lovell designs. Currently doing Euryale, one of the Gorgen sisters. Mind you at my current stitching speed I have many years ahead of me till it is complete.

As PP have said, Emily Peacock stuff is beautiful and a joy to create. Also check out books by Emma Congdon/ Stitchrovia - some lovely designs.

Anything by Satsuma Street! The designs are fun and lots of Christmas options at the moment. I really like doing the different city designs (currently working on Honolulu). They are sometimes stocked in Hobbycraft but you can also get on Etsy.
