Free sewing stuff

I'm decluttering and trying to keep things out of landfill. I have no crafty friends and don't use apps, Facebook etc so I've nowhere to give this away locally. It's not the sort of thing you see in charity shops around here and I really CBA to take it there only to potentially have to bring it back again. So if anyone wants some free sewing stuff drop me a PM with an address to send it, UK only please, I'll cover the postage. This is the first lot, I'll be back with more as and when I've sorted it out. It's zips, vi elastic, thread, hook and eyes fastening, buckles

I don't want it OP as I have enough sewing clutter of my own but there are two places I know of locally just in my small rural backwater that would be glad to have free sewing supplies and I regularly drop off bags of scraps etc to.

One is the local primary school the other is an arts and crafts place that does community sewing lessons.

Someone somewhere will be glad of it though I'm sure!

I would love some, but happy to pay your postage. I'm a quilter and I know that the young quilters guild would use things like these if you have one near you?

lljkk · 19/07/2023 22:22

That would get taken away quick on my local Facebook giveaways page.

Damn, I just got my sewing machine out to shorten some trousers for DS and...

  1. I had to clean unknown brown spots off the machine (all over it) and dust
  2. there was a dessicated deceased vole in the box (cats)
  3. I damn near forgot how to use the machine.

Not good, is it? I really need to do some patchwork soon.

IndianSummer78 · 20/07/2023 02:06

Dessicated deceased vole 🤢 ewww

I haven't got a FB account. I deleted it because I got fed up of one billion questions every time I tried to sell something (with all the information in the ad), followed by no-shows and generally being messed around. People here are lazy AF. They won't go to the other side of town for a job. They definitely won't go out of their way to buy something and I CBA to give away free if I've got the irritating fuckers coming (if they show up) to my door. It's not so much a sale price as an annoyance fee

I'd happily take things wherever, if I knew they'd definitely take it and I'd not have to bring it home again, but charity shops are almost permanently closed, no knowing when they're open or what items they'll take. Community things - that's not possible to find out in advance if they'll take things either, or even exist, because I live in some kind of insular psychic place where nobody advertises anything or has a website. You only find out about stuff if you have a pile of local friends who've all got family lived here since dinosaurs ruled the earth and know by smoke signals and blinking in code at each other, what local events and clubs there are. I'm a homebody so...

If you want something for yourself or your club, drop me an address because I'm not actually psychic 😁

This sort of thing gets snapped up quickly on my local freegle/freecycle/trash nothing site. I have the Trash Nothing app and just leave stuff on my porch when someone says they'd like it (no interaction required 😂😂)

IndianSummer78 · 20/07/2023 18:14

@SoupDragon I've had people send me messages that I've not seen because I'm not glued to my phone telling me they're in their car outside. Honestly they can't even be bothered to come ring the doorbell, they just leave without their stuff having had a totally wasted journey 😂 . Then there's the ones who's satnav doesn't take them to exactly the front door, who CBA to park up and come looking, so I get calls from people who have ignored my very simple directions and are driving up and down the road unable to find me. It's such a headache. I CBA to download apps and sign up for things anyway, that part is always a nuisence too, just leads to me browsing and bringing more stuff in

Anyway first lot is going off tomorrow to whoever it was that messaged me.

Here's another lot I've sorted out today if anyone wants it. Bag of zips, about 10, buckles, binding, thread, elastic, hook and eyes

@IndianSummer78 I hope you get to post it to someone who needs and likes!

btw your writing style is brilliant!

IndianSummer78 · 21/07/2023 15:57

Thanks @Waterfallgirl . It'll probably end up binned. One lot has gone off today but apart from that all I've had is two time wasters message me. One not wanting to give out the address. I mean, how else were they expecting to receive it - homing pigeon perhaps?! And I did mention needing an address in my first post... The other asking what the stuff is - because I guess pausing to read a brief description and looking at a picture is just too much to manage... Honestly I despair of the human race! It's a shame because it's all good quality and most is brand new, but there we are. If I can't give it away without hassle then the bin it is. I'll feel less guilty having tried anyway and at least I've made one person happy

I posted it on there earlier today. No takers yet. Probably some people on Mumsnet aren't on it daily though, so I'll give it a week or so to see if I get any more people interested before binning it. You're right that it would suit beginners who haven't yet built up a stash
