Beginner Sewing Machine

I'm looking to buy a sewing machine to do really basic things like sew hems, sew things onto school uniform. I am a complete beginner.

The second hand ones close to me are:
JL110SE
Brother LS14
Toyota SPB15

All come in at around £50. Are any of these recommended? I'd consider new too if there are any good recommendations but I don't want to spend much.

The John Lewis one will be made by Janome, which is a good make. New £135

Brother also a good make but they retail new for about £90...

Don't know about Toyota.

I'd probably go for the JL, with a view to upgrading to a higher spec Janome if you get into sewing and need it to handle heavier weight fabrics etc.

I’ve had that JL one for 5 years and it’s still going strong. It’s made clothes and costumes and curtains and toys and all sorts. It’s a great machine for the price.

The JL one is good.

@BareBelliedSneetch Is the JL easy enough to use?

Super easy. I’ve had no issues with it at all
