have used basic eearly learning centre poster paint in the past but it cracked. Want to put ds' handprints on a canvas on the playroom wall but obviously need non toxic paint and paint that won't crack. any ideas?

acrylic... is good... and last longer than posterpaint.. you can also spray a varnish onto it to preserve it.. I'm pretty sure you can varnish posterpaint to keep it from cracking if you are worried about it being non toxic.
