Sewing on a patch

Tried and failed to iron it on (always fail with wundaweb too) but I do need to stitch it anyway. I'm stitching onto denim how can I make this easier? My usual needles aren't making a dent in it. Thanks.

You can get denim sewing needles. Those and a thimble would make it easier. Or fabric glue?
