The other thread is so painfully slow so lets hope a shiny new one will run a smoothly as a well behaved sewing machine. Pin your places here my lovely stitchers Smile

I have done this in the past in similar circumstances with simple pattern pieces, in fact I've actually done it for a bodice piece already with this pattern 2 makes ago, when I lost a different pattern piece. Technically I'm actually 3 pattern pieces down.

however, The back leg has various pleats and things though - I don't it's doable.

i'm very disorganised.

SleepingisanArt · 19/06/2023 23:46

I have a stash of fabrics for making toys but nothing for human sized clothing. No decent fabric shops close to me so I'm having a google...... I currently have 26 tabs open..... Is this normal? Now I'm paralysed with indecision! I'm easily sidetracked I think.... Found something I like for the 'duvet cover' top but now I've seen loads of gorgeous viscose for trousers and a maxi (ish as I'm only 5ft3) skirt..... Is there a fabrics anonymous group? Can I join in advance? I can see this being worse than my current stash......

GnomeDePlume · 20/06/2023 02:18

@dubyalass chino fabric is from Dalston Mills. It does have a really nice feel to it. Quite light but with sufficient structure to it.

I could cry, I've got some gorgeous swishy crepe in a lovely green colour that's somewhere between avocado and olive. It was supposed to become a vogue 9075 which I've made before.

just been to lay it all out for cutting and there are two pattern pieces missing. They have obviously been accidentally put away in the wrong envelope but that's an actual needle in a haystack to try and find them.

it's a princess seam bodice piece and the back leg of the culottes - so not bits that are easy to fudge.

my choices are -

go through every single open pattern I own to find the missing pieces
choose a different pattern
take apart my wearable toile which I actually wear loads
buy the pattern again
ask vogue to send me the missing pieces again as PDF. pay for them to be printed off

none of those options are going to see me sewing anything tonight though

not sure if anyone suggested contacting Vogue? they may be able to send you the pattern pieces? Especially if you include a photo of the pattern and the ones you have already made? Worth a try.

It's basically a really fine twill, isn't it.

Croft Mills often has quite a nice range of this sort of fabric. Their mail order & telephone service is excellent.

PickAChew · 20/06/2023 11:48

@SleepingisanArt that sounds about the right number of tabs. It is often said that fabric shopping and sewing are separate hobbies 😅

CrimsonAlligator · 20/06/2023 12:49

I can confirm they’re separate hobbies @SleepingisanArt .

I manage the urge to buy everything by keeping a list of nice fabrics I come across and then I pick one or two things when I get paid. The way I see it, there are always nice fabrics around, so even if what I want is sold out, there will be something else.

Less restrained and more fun ways to manage things are possible, but this works for me 😆

dubyalass · 20/06/2023 14:50

I go into town with no plans to buy fabric and then just 'pop in' to the fabric shop, spunk £50 quid and curse myself while feeling secretly pleased.

Thanks for chino recommendations @GnomeDePlume and @DollyParkin , I will check those out.

Chewbecca · 20/06/2023 14:51

Ogden cami from old duvet cover is finished.

Really pleased with it, very little cursing went on! It's a little on the large side but the darts look ideal and I like the length. A little disappointed the straps don't fully cover my bra strap so will need a strapless bra. (This is the bigger version which has wider straps). My point at the V isn't as good as it could be so I need to be more careful there next time. I'm never sure quite where to stop. The lining is fine, it comes down to an inch or two above my waistband, fully covering the boob area.

Now to choose a beautiful fabric (that's easy to work with!) to make for real.

GnomeDePlume · 20/06/2023 16:10

@dubyalass one of the things I like with Dalston Mills is that they supply matching thread and you do get a really good quantity for the £1.75 charge. Overall their fabric prices are a little higher than the pound shops but I haven't been disappointed by quality yet.

Be warned, fabric buying is addictive! On long train journeys I do a fantasy trolley dash through an online shop and easily top £400. I am however careful not to have my card details saved!

CrimsonAlligator · 20/06/2023 17:02

I’m glad your Ogden was successful chewbecca. If I ever sort out the fit on mine, I plan to sew mine up in this viscose challis 😋

Re. sewing the V, I find it useful to mark the spot where I need to pivot, before I start sewing. It’s the easiest way for me to get the V right.

I’ve just made an Ogden Cami too, this one is the hack which turns into a button up peplum version. I’m really pleased with how it’s turned out. It’s fully lined so none of the awkward placement the part lined version does.

It’s made from a viscose linen and I’m going to make a pair of the trousers from the Saguaro set to mix and match.

Ulysses · 20/06/2023 17:27

That’s a beautiful print Crimson.

Ah, thanks, I will try marking the spot.

That fabric is glorious.

This looks really tidy & professional!

Gorgeous teal. @CrimsonAlligator and lovely top, @Ulysses

No chance of anything strappy with my flappy middle aged arms and fair skin.

kittykarate · 21/06/2023 10:05

Quickie sew for me last night, changing a men's cut tshirt into something more wearable.

pastabest · 21/06/2023 21:50

My sewing woes continue. Still not found the pattern pieces for the vogue jumpsuit so decided last night to cut out a pair of adult size tania cullottes instead.

I've made loads of kids mini tanias so set off with confidence I knew what I was doing.

The adult tania pattern pieces are huge, they have to be cut out on a single layer of fabric. I forgot to reverse the pattern pieces for one of the leg pieces (basically a whole metre of fabric). Not the end of the world as I had enough to recut but only because my plan was to make a top to go with it so it could be a faux jumpsuit if I wanted. It was viscose as well so very slippery cutting.

Then did the same again with the pockets.

By the time I finished there was no time for sewing, I was sweating, had leg cramps and my cutting floor looked like 100 rabid hamsters had been having a stag do.

SBAM · 22/06/2023 18:27

Oh no @pastabest you’re not having a good run of it right now.

I finished my romper from a German pattern without needing google translate (I was fine following the pictures) though I suspect I was supposed to add seam allowance.

I was really careful with the cuffs and thought I’d double checked they were both the right way up before I sewed but clearly not! I’m not going to unpick it though, I’ll say it’s so baby can see the octopus the right way up if they’re looking at their feet 😂

That's so cute!

NutellaEllaElla · 22/06/2023 22:00

Well done for persevering @pastabest , it sounds like it was being a massive pain in the arse but at least you got through it! Cutting is rubbish. Not sure if it's the worst bit, (wherever there's bias binding is the worst bit for me) but it's got to be close.

That is supercute @SBAM
Nice one @kittykarate , I have some alteration of mens polo shirts to make them fit DH but it's not as exciting as any of my other projects so it has been waiting for years now...On my very long list. At the bottom. Ever expanding and getting lower down.

so cute, and yes, German patterns require you to add seam allowance

PickAChew · 23/06/2023 18:10

I think I need some octopus rompers ❤️🐙
