The other thread is so painfully slow so lets hope a shiny new one will run a smoothly as a well behaved sewing machine. Pin your places here my lovely stitchers Smile

@123ZYX my mum taught me to paper piece with hexagons when I was a child - and sadly my hand sewing still looks like an 8 year old did it!

Im not a big fan of hand sewing, so I’m spending some time getting things cut and prepped before my machine comes back. I’m trying to use up all the leftover half metres that I kept because they’d be big enough for kids clothes before my kids get too big for that to be true.

Has anyone seen a jumpsuit pattern for jersey fabric? Ideally I was something scoop neck, maybe with a button front, short sleeves, some kind of waist cinching, with pockets and straight or wide leg trousers.

Have you had a look at the True Bias Nova?

pastabest · 24/05/2023 20:37

Or the Sew Over It Nasima?

Jins · 24/05/2023 22:32

I’m sure I had a jersey jumpsuit pattern with one of the magazines a year or so ago. I’ll have a look through my pattern box as I think it may meet the description

SBAM · 25/05/2023 07:22

Ooh, @Jins that might work!
Thanks @pastabest for your suggestions too, the Nasima looks super close but I really need pockets and I’m not sure how easy they’d be to add in.

SewinginIreland · 25/05/2023 07:28

@SBAM in-seam pockets on trousers/pants are the easiest to add. Have a look on YouTube for directions and you could use an existing pair of trousers with in-seam pockets to work out where you want them to sit, i.e. don’t make them too low down.

I sometimes add them to RTW trousers by unpicking the outside leg seam a bit and using a fabric for the pockets that roughly matches.

Tilly and the Buttons has a free template for inseam pockets and and explanation of how to add them that I tend to use - they're fabulously huge, but I have used it as a guide to make smaller ones for DS

NutellaEllaElla · 25/05/2023 10:54

Yes I found a free template and instructions for pockets, super easy

@SewinginIreland @123ZYX @NutellaEllaElla I’ve added side seam pockets to patterns before, you’re right, if you get the placement right it’s easy.
I like to be able to put my keys and phone in my pockets when I’m just popping out for the school run or whatever, and I think in a lightweight jersey side seam pockets will drag and sag. I think slash pockets where the top of the pocket bag is anchored into the waistband would be a more sensible option, but I can’t work out if the Nasima jumpsuit has a waist seam to add that type of pocket to.

Craftybodger · 25/05/2023 12:29

I’ve just found the right pockets for me. In seam pockets, where the top of the pocket is sewn across the waistband, stops them sagging! Discovered them when making Staystitch’s Solene culottes.

Hi all
I'm doing pretty well with my Sauvie sundress (Sew House Seven) but am stuck on this step. Can anyone help with what it means please? (In beginner language 🤣). Also included the armhole inside edge just in case it helps!
Thank you.

Maybe it's sort of tucking the seam edges inwards and putting an extra line of stitching in to reinforce those bits of seam before turning it right side in?

Chewbecca · 25/05/2023 21:47

Thanks so much for that link, I think it explains the steps I need. I definitely have the problem it states, the lining does poke out a bit and I don’t have a nice crisp edge.
Will try again tomorrow (hopefully!).

Jins · 25/05/2023 22:04

Practice understitching on some scraps first @Chewbecca. When you’ve done it a few times it makes more sense and you’ll be more comfortable doing the real thing. I try to stitch about 1mm away from the stitching line as I discovered by trial and error that this reduces ironing. I tend to sew with viscose and I think your fabric will be a bit more forgiving

Chewbecca · 25/05/2023 22:06

Good idea, thanks. It’s a linen mix, I love it!

dubyalass · 25/05/2023 23:21

I have next week off and am looking forward to getting some sewing done. Finally time to attempt the Springe jumpsuit and another pair of Bob pants.

Karatema · 26/05/2023 12:47

Just had a delivery at work of 28 meters of plain cotton fabric. Gorgeous colours 😀 Now to sneak them in home because I really don't need any more fabric 🤣

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 26/05/2023 13:26

28 metres? Shock Are you dressing a shed load of children in matching outfits à la The Sound of Music?

NutellaEllaElla · 26/05/2023 20:26

Holy crap that must be a sizeable lump to store!

@Karatema 28m must weigh quite a bit, how are you planning to sneak that in?!

Next week! He's away for a few days and I'm lucky enough to have a She Shed! It's full of fabric but he doesn't go in very often!

🤣 They were a bargain! The quality is lovely.

Jins · 29/05/2023 11:39

Well I’ve just toiled the Sauvie sundress and it’s going to require a lot of work in fitting 😥 It’s baggy under the arms yet tight across the bust because the apex is miles out. This is my problem with my broad back I expect but I’ve never had such a poor fit on first toile in my life.
