Weighing down the hem of a dress

I've got a floaty cotton tiered maxi dress that isn't hanging quite right (light cotton) and I want to weigh down the hem slightly. The only thing I can find online is curtain weights which seems a little extreme. I was thinking I could grab a few 1p coins and sew them into little pouches around the hem but it seems a massive faff and I suspect I'd have to take them off again before washing the dress. is there a better solution that google hasn't shown me?

How about thin cord sewn into the hem?

I think designer houses like chanel sew thin chains into the hems of things they want to hang right for couture clothing?

You can buy lead thread in haberdashers, or hem weights.

What about a strip of heavier fabric? Or rolling the hem? You don't want too much weight.

A strip of Iron on interfacing might do it.

Thanks very much! I've found lots of Mumsnet discussions about Chanel's famous gem chain but nobody seems to sell it. Lead thread or heavy-ish interfacing might be the ticket though - thank you

Hem chain is sold by McCulloch & Wallis. At least, it was. You'd have to check online.

You can also get lead weights that are magnetic and decorative. Lots available on Amazon. Or if you're near Oxford, give Masons at Abingdon a call.

I have sewed on a metal button one each at the junction of a vertical seam and the horizontal hem, that worked but tbh it was an asda dress so wasn't expecting perfection anyway.

Would washers work evenly along the hem? As they come in different sizes you could choose an appropriate weight, an you'd be able to sew through the hole to hold them on
