Very cute @tizwozliz

QuantumWeatherButterfly · 26/10/2022 09:02

That is adorable, @tizwozliz !

You'll all be so proud - I started my second bag handle at the weekend! I managed two rows, which is all of 16 stitches, but at least it is started now!😂

BucketofTeaMassiveCake · 26/10/2022 12:33

Your socks look great sophs29 and you've used lovely colours QuantomWeatherButterfly and I am full of admiration for your pumpkin tizwozliz as I find stuffing items rather difficult.

Fairislefandango · 28/10/2022 21:29

Thank you for the link to the spinning/wool course @SpinMeRightRoundBabyRightRound and also for the very kind offer of crochet hooks! I think we're ok for hooks for now- I ordered a pack of cheapo ones after the last meeting of the group, plus the girls ard beginning to get their own supplies now!

I'm loving the baby pumpkin and the mug cozies. I'm still plodding away atmy sleeve scarf - I've still got about 75 inches of stocking stitch with garter stitch edges to go before I reach the beginning of the other sleeve Shock.

I have not one, but two finished objects after a drought of them Glitterball

I was trying to stash bust my box of spun wool so I threw bits of everything at my loom to make a V cowl despite being totally dubious about how all the colours and textures would work together. It’s not my usual style at all but I like it, it’s toasty Grin

I’ve also finally finished spinning my black fibre and it’s all done! I need to soak it and count the wraps to find out how much I have but I’m done! Yay Grin

Wow that's stunning @SpinMeRightRoundBabyRightRound the colours look great together!

MerylSqueak · 29/10/2022 13:13

That's amazing @SpinMeRightRoundBabyRightRound .

Was all set to start my scarf in lovely squishy Drops Air but we've all come down with what looks and feels like norovirus. Grim.

SpinMeRightRoundBabyRightRound · 29/10/2022 15:40

Thanks 😊

Oh no @MerylSqueak I’m so sorry, that’s horrible for you all ☹️

StillNiceCardigan · 29/10/2022 15:43

I love the scarf @SpinMeRightRoundBabyRightRound its beautiful.

I hope you all feel better soon @MerylSqueak

Not much crafting going on here - we’ve sold our house and are trying to find something to buy. We saw something we really like yesterday but there were one or two things which were not quite right. I think we need a second viewing before we decide if it’s the one for us. It’s all a bite stressful.

StillNiceCardigan · 29/10/2022 15:44

Bit!

QuantumWeatherButterfly · 29/10/2022 18:18

Oh that is gorgeous, @SpinMeRightRoundBabyRightRound - I love those colours. Coincidentally they are very close to what I want for my poncho (if it ever happens!)

Crafters, I need to pick your brains - but not for me this time. DM, who I think I have mentioned before is an absolute master knitter, is going to knit my DH a jumper.

However, we've hit a snag. DH absolutely hates wearing wool, he finds it really itchy, so he wants an acrylic yarn. Mum hasn't knitted a man's jumper for years and while she's been researching patterns, she has realised that literally every single one is for a yarn with as least some wool content. She's worried this is because the size of the garment means that the wool is needed to ensure shape and structure, and that knitting in fully acrylic will mean it ends up being saggy.

Firstly - do you think she is right?
Secondly - can anyone recommend a good yarn with plenty of structure that is either so soft you genuinely wouldn't notice the wool, or has enough strength that you don't notice it's missing? Ideally DK, but 4-ply also fine.

tizwozliz · 30/10/2022 16:37

Argh - just found a mistake in my blanket two rows ago. Trying to decide whether to unpick or correct it with some extra stitches

StillNiceCardigan · 30/10/2022 20:45

@QuantumWeatherButterfly i would have thought acrylic would hold its shape. I wouldn’t worry about using it. But as an alternative I’ve used king Cole homespun dk for a big sweater, it’s a mix with wool, alpaca and acrylic and it’s quite soft.

@tizwozliz i managed to join some granny squares together the wrong way round this afternoon (the one in the middle was wrong side up and the others were right side up). I spent ages looking at it to see if I could get away with leaving it but then caved in and decided that I would undo it.

CrochetBug · 30/10/2022 20:49

@QuantumWeatherButterfly acrylic should be fine. I've used it for jumpers and they hold their shape perfectly well.

tizwozliz · 30/10/2022 20:57

I've worked in the correction and think I can live with it. I'm only going to see the error if I go looking for it, it doesn't jump out at you

StillNiceCardigan · 30/10/2022 20:59

I can’t see it @tizwozliz you’ve hidden it well!

Fairislefandango · 30/10/2022 21:53

Gorgeous cowl, @SpinMeRightRoundBabyRightRound - I love the colour combo!
So sorry to hear you're all ill @MerylSqueak -norovirus is grim. Flowers

Good luck with the house buying, @StillNiceCardigan . Are you moving locally or relocating? Either way, it's always a really stressful time!

It's my birthday tomorrow, but as I'll be at work we've decided to pretend it's today. We went out for lunch at a Japanese restaurant and I got some lovely presents from family, including a really pretty orifice hook for my spinning wheel which dd had ordered for me from her and ds. I was quite touched - she'd heard me say ages ago that I was using a makeshift one made of garden wire and had made a mental note to get me a nice one!

We’re moving to Suffolk @Fairislefandango which will be about 50 miles away from where we are now. Going from commuter town to semi rural so a big change!

Happy birthday for tomorrow and well done to your DD for paying attention.

sophs29 · 31/10/2022 07:26

@StillNiceCardigan I live in Suffolk! What a small world!

Happy birthday @Fairislefandango ☺️

SpinMeRightRoundBabyRightRound · 31/10/2022 08:20

Happy Birthday @Fairislefandango! Your DD is so thoughtful, that’s a lovely gift!

That looks good @tizwozliz I don’t see any mistakes at all. The colours and ripple effect are lovely together.

@QuantumWeatherButterfly echoing what everyone else has said acrylic won’t go saggy so it should be fine!

Hope all feeling better today @MerylSqueak!

Good luck @StillNiceCardigan!

Halloween holidays start today for us, it seems like this term has flown in!

tizwozliz · 31/10/2022 09:15

There's a double crochet (us) stitch missing where the red circle is, meant I was a stitch short for the block of 6x2 DC 2 rows later. So I've squashed some extra stitches in where the blue circles are so I've still got my 12 stitches but only going into five stitches of the previous row which keeps my ripples lined up.

Glad that I've avoided frogging some rows, the one negative of this pattern is every other row is just SC in every stitch so you don't pick up any mistakes in the previous row until you're two rows further on.

RadFad · 31/10/2022 18:23

Hi to all! Can I join in with the crochet chat. I've been crocheting for 7 years and learnt to knit as a child but find crochet easier/quicker.

Currently working on Attic24 neat ripple blanket in coastal colour way for friends. I have a half finished grannygoround jumper I need to get finished and so many other projects I want to get started on!

I wondered if many of you subscribe to Simply Crochet magazine? If so do you think it's worth it? I'm thinking about asking DH for it for Christmas.

CrochetBug · 31/10/2022 19:03

Bloody Halloween spooks have got in my phone/mumsnet.
Attempt 4 at sending a message...

Happy birthday @Fairislefandango hope you've had a good day.

I wouldn't have noticed that at all @tizwozliz !

Welcome @RadFad . The Granny-go-round cardi is on my to do list, but when I've lost weight I think.

Personally I wouldn't bother with a magazine subscription because the chances are you won't want most of the patterns.

Crochet has been conspiring against me. The nativity set is just issues after issues. Thought I had everything then lost the backs for the eyes. <sigh>

I have made as much of my jumper as I could though, I had to order more yarn to finish it. The sleeves are so good. I'm so proud of me.
Wound some of my skeins I bought in summer into balls and started a pair of socks. I'm so in love with them. They are mainly merino and so so so soft! And beautiful. And soft. and expensive

tizwozliz · 31/10/2022 19:52

@RadFad - I think my blanket is the coastal colourway, but it's the Attic24 woodland ripple (it's so long since I started it I'm not 100% sure!)

RadFad · 31/10/2022 20:17

@CrochetBug I did wonder if it will end up as something I accumulate but don't actually use. I noticed an advertisement for a collab between them and flower fairies, which my mum read to me a lot growing up so thought it would be a lovely idea to make the fairies for my own DC. I'll have more of a think before I impulsively decide.

@tizwozliz yes I think it is the same colour way. How big is the blanket you are making? I've only 3 stripes and the border left to go on mine and then I can gift it, but shall I hold onto it until Christmas, is the question!
