How's everyone getting on in the heat? It's only about 22° up here, so we're having it easy!
I'm faffing about, supposedly decluttering and deep-cleaning the house. I have a sick ddog atm, which is not helping the cleaning- tmi but everywhere smells a bit of wee Envy. Hoping the antibiotics will sirt him out...

Still no knitting going on here, but I've still not missed a day's spinning on the Tour de Fleece Smile. Currently spinning white Jacob, which I will ply with itself.

Still with covid and feeling horrible here.

Knitting a chunky wool blanket is a challenge in the heat!

Am enjoying seeing your yarns. Love that orange @SpinMeRightRoundBabyRightRound . Is that one you dyed?

SpinMeRightRoundBabyRightRound · 12/07/2022 19:44

Ah, what heat? Tbf, it’s a nice night now and we’re on the beach and we have it to ourselves but it was mizzling and grey until about 4 here!

Sorry to hear you’re still feeling horrible @MerylSqueak , I hope you’re on the mend soon! It wasn’t one I dyed, it was John Arbon fibre which I love so much!

I’ve been doing lots of spindle spinning @Fairislefandango

SpinMeRightRoundBabyRightRound · 12/07/2022 19:47

Oops, posted too soon, I’m watching DS bodyboard and my fingers are frozen!

I’ve been doing lots of spindle spinning and I’ve nearly finished that fibre but I’m definitely plying on the wheel, I hate plying from spindles!

Oh wow @SpinMeRightRoundBabyRightRound what a lovely view!

Covid has hit my household, all 4 of us have it! Lovely in the 30° heat we've had today..not 😭 we're all feeling pretty rotten!

MerylSqueak · 12/07/2022 20:54

Sorry to hear that@sophs29 . I hope you all recover from it quickly. It's horrible!

Fairislefandango · 12/07/2022 21:52

Oh no - poor you, @sophs29 ! Hope you all get better soon.

Beautiful view, @SpinMeRightRoundBabyRightRound . I am going to have another go with the spindles at some point soon. I found them really tricky when I tried before, but I've had so much more practice drafting now, I think I would find it easier.

Im very jealous of beaches and spinning! Sorry you're all ill @sophs29 . I had the most horrendous stomach bug at the weekend.

It's hot here but not unbearable.
I actually went for a 5 mile walk this afternoon!

I've still got no crojo at all.
But have been testing something new.

prettyteapotsplease · 13/07/2022 07:34

That's so pretty Crochetbug reminds me of my grandma's sewing skills.

I'm struggling with a difficult knitting pattern of a jumper with cables and twists (though it's called a t-shirt in the pattern) and it looks like I may have to frog at least four rows which is so annoying. I'd thought it was going well until I found I'd dropped a stitch which unravelled a few rows down. I can pick up a normal dropped stitch but this has alternate knit/purl and is proving too fiddly.

I've already completed the (identical) front and the sleeves so I must plough on as it were. Much gnashing of teeth, etc.

Fairislefandango · 13/07/2022 13:59

Urgh - dropped stitches! I am crap at dealing with them even in simple knitting!

That looks beautiful, @CrochetBug ! So pretty.

Oh no @sophs29! I hope you all feel better soon!

That’s pretty @CrochetBug! I like the little flowers

Hope you got your dropped stitch sorted @prettyteapotsplease! What pattern are you making? It sounds interesting!

sophs29 · 14/07/2022 09:18

Thank you everyone!
@MerylSqueak hope you feel better very soon!

@CrochetBug that's very pretty! Embroidery videos keep coming up on my Pinterest and it's something I'd love to try properly one day!

prettyteapotsplease · 14/07/2022 13:46

My pc isn't behaving atm so it won't let me post a picture. It's got cap sleeves and a square yoke. At our quilters' meeting a member brought some old magazines to dispose of - did anyone want them? I do mean old. Naturally some of us looked through them and me, being an idiot, chose a difficult pattern. The fact that the model is probably 6' tall, 1' wide and young enough to be my daughter hasn't deterred me.

SpinMeRightRoundBabyRightRound · 14/07/2022 14:01

@prettyteapotsplease GrinGrinGrin oh yes, I do love old patterns, even though the sizing is sometimes jaw dropping!

Fairislefandango · 14/07/2022 14:06

Sounds lovely, @prettyteapotsplease , if tricky!

I'm yet again spinning when I should be doing housework Blush. My white Jacob 2-ply is looking pretty good (compared with previous efforts!). I might even be able to use it as the mc alongside my chunky, purple/white unintentionally 'art' yarn for the Dragonwell Cowl!

The white is having its little post-plying bath right now - will post a pic when it's dried, and you can all politely go "Ooh - some plain white yarn, how lovely but you could have just bought some non-wonky stuff in a shop, you loon !" Grin

I'm having fun and games after my job interview. I didn't get the job but they have asked do I want to be considered for another job at the level below. I don't need to be interviewed again.

I've been doing the sums on the salary and I think it works but I can't start home working until after the first 6 weeks. I'm not sure if I can bear commuting again!

I need to do some stress busting crochet granny squares this evening.

Your flowers look lovely @CrochetBug its all very neat.

Fairislefandango · 14/07/2022 15:57

Oof - that sounds like a tricky decision, @StillNiceCardigan . Sorry you didn't get the first one.

Here is my 'yarniest' (i.e. least like rope) yarn so far! I have no idea how much of it I'll need to make the cowl, but I've still got some of the white fleece left, so I can make more!

How soon would it start @StillNiceCardigan

I had a job where I had to travel to an office 60 miles away for the first 6 weeks, but it was over the summer when it was quieter on the roads, decent weather and didn't involve driving in the dark. I wouldn't have wanted to do it long-term but for a fixed period where the end was in sight it wasn't as bad as I thought. Nothing like the grind of daily commuting.

StillNiceCardigan · 14/07/2022 16:25

They will want me to start asap @tizwozliz so probably the beginning of August. I would be commuting to London on the train but it might be ok to do it again for a fixed time and then I only have to go in one day a week. I just have flashbacks of pre pandemic and getting up very early to travel on a very very hot train. I would have done it for the more senior role but I need to decide whether its worth the effort for the one I'm being considered for.

I could take my crochet on the train though!

Fairislefandango · 14/07/2022 16:38

I could take my crochet on the train though!

Aha - there's the silver lining! A little morning crochet would be a nice way to start the day Smile

I could take my crochet on the train though!

One of the reasons I got into crochet was because it's so portable, I needed something easy to cart about when I was working away a lot.

InTheNightWeWillWish · 14/07/2022 19:51

I could take my crochet on the train though!

I’m so excited to start work and do my crochet over lunch! I’m looking forward to the office day because then on my lunch I can crochet, I think working from home it might be too tempting to do a bit of housework at lunch. Can you take some time over the weekend to decide?

StillNiceCardigan · 14/07/2022 20:52

@InTheNightWeWillWish they haven’t officially offered me the other job yet so I have got a bit of time to think about it. I’ve been working at home since march 2020 so I’m not sure I can cope with interacting with actual people again!

There aren’t any wool shops near the office unfortunately so I can’t use that as an incentive.

InTheNightWeWillWish · 14/07/2022 21:44

@StillNiceCardigan I was working from home from 2020 too. I went in the office a bit before maternity leave because I didn’t want people to think I’d left and then come back (but I actually decided to leave 😂). The commute still sucks but it was nice to see people in person. Briefly anyway. It’s a big shift to being back in the office, I found our office so noisy when I went back in. For the new job I’ll be one day a week and I’ve taken the view it’ll be nice to get to know people face to face but I still want to maintain my home working and my little environment by myself. Despite popular belief on here, I think office days won’t be my most productive days but necessary to get to know new colleagues. I’ve accepted that the office day is going to be a rubbish day. We’re going to get some cook meals in for my office day. I’m doing them mostly on Tuesdays too so it’s not adding to the Sunday night feeling but getting it out of the way earlier in the week. Maybe if you can specify a day and just accept it’s a rubbish day, that might help. Obviously you don’t have to take the job if it isn’t right for you.
