Lidl overlocker - should I step away from the isle of wonder?

How bad, relatively speaking, is the Lidl overlocker?

DH has just informed me there’s some in at the minute and I’ve got a lot of fiddly sewing jobs at the moment that a overlocker would make easier. But not if the overlocker would make me want to throw it out a window…

What is the model?
I've had one about 5 years. It's a proper Singer overlocker but it is a bit basic, can struggle with fine fabrics and tension not always great. I use it loads though. I understand more recent years they had some issues but they do replace under warranty. I did an overlocking workshop and their Janomes were definitely better but then they cost twice as much.

I don’t know to be honest, I’m going to call down after the school run for a look.

Good to know about the warranty and the fact you’ve got loads of use out of yours. I’m not doing anything fancy, just basics.

argh, mixed up usernames, I’ll get the hang of the new site eventually.

I got a singer one in Lidl maybe 5 years ago. To be honest I don't use it much because it is really difficult to thread properly. I did a course ro actually learn how to use it and like the precious poster the janome machines we used were much better.

tedgran · 16/05/2022 13:28

Reviews that I've read in the past aren't great for Lidl overlockers, as for threading they're all fiddly!

FlaviaAlbia · 16/05/2022 14:15

I was just down and the question is moot since there aren’t any left anyway!

Ah well, I can manage on the sewing machine and save the money!

The necchi overlockers in aldi have a much better rep and are currently in stock online - no idea about in store.

FlaviaAlbia · 16/05/2022 14:27

Well, that was a weird spammer Hmm

Thanks pastabest I’ll check them out

I would step away, it has all the functions but extremely fiddly. I’ve just spent 2 hrs just putting in new needles and re threading, thankfully it’s not mine. Save up for a janome

pastabest · 25/04/2023 21:47

The OP is hopefully sorted now 12 months later @Thebluntscissors Grin

FlaviaAlbia · 25/04/2023 22:35

Believe it or not, I’m still haven’t got one @pastabest Grin I decided to leave it because my sewing machine is doing most of what I need and I’ve fallen further down the spinning and weaving rabbit hole so my available space is decreasing Grin
