Sock knitting help - I don't understand the toe decrease instructions!

I've got a fab sock knitting kit for Christmas and am nearing completion of my first sock!! But I don't understand this bit. (In case anyone has done this pattern before, it's a Regia Sock Knit Kit)

Here is the instructions:

"For toe decreases work to 3 from end of needles 1 and 3 and K2 tog, K1; on needles 2 and 4 work K1, then a slip decrease knitwise over the next two stitches".

OK I get that bit, it's just for reference. Then it says:

"Repeat these decreases as given in the chart until 8 sts remain".

Here is what the chart says for my size:

Decreases for toes after 1s5 decrease round:

On 4th round: 1x
on every 3rd round: 2x
on every 2nd round: 3x
on every round: 6x

Hellllp ... what does it mean??

How many stitches do you have at the mo? And is that all it says? THere isn't anything else tucked away? I've knitted socks before and not found it that difficult.

Don't suppose there's any way to scan the pattern so I can see what you're working from is there?

DutchOmainapeartree · 30/12/2007 14:58

I think it means you do the decreases as stated on the first row, then 3 rows without decreases then decrease do two rows without decreases, then 3x and do 1 round without decreases and 6x on every round. That should give you 48 stitches to begin with?
Is that about right?

BellaBear · 30/12/2007 15:01

DutchOma is right

Are you me? I had to understand these exact instructions three days ago and didn't understand them and had to have them explained.

So your rows go:
normal
normal
normal
decrease
normal
normal
decrease
normal
normal
decrease
normal
decrease
normal
decrease
normal
decrease
decrease
decrease
decrease
decrease
decrease
decrease

BellaBear · 30/12/2007 15:02

Actually not sure DutchOma is right now. But my 'decrease/normal' list is. Definitely.

BellaBear · 30/12/2007 15:04

rounds not rows

So you decrease once on the fourth round

then twice every three rounds

then three times every second round

then six times every round

(I always post three times, I should preview beofre I post)

My finished sock is now on ravelry - are you?

DutchOmainapeartree · 30/12/2007 15:13

I think you should start with a decrease round, otherwise what's the point?
Then 3 normal and a decrease and so on

Miaou · 30/12/2007 15:13

Oooh thanks folks! Sorry had to feed ds2 so abandoned this thread.

I started off with 60 sts (15 on each needle). So would that work? Will try and work it out in a mo.

Bella, yes I'm on ravelry as miaou - but I don't have flickr so haven't added any pics! Will have a look at yours though!

OP posts:
BellaBear · 30/12/2007 15:14

yes you are right, I meant my list to start after the first decrease round

DutchOmainapeartree · 30/12/2007 15:16

The only thing I don't understand is this 1s5 decrease round.

Miaou · 30/12/2007 15:16

OK, so started off with 60 sts. ist decrease round leaves 56 sts.

Then:

normal
normal
normal
decrease - 52
normal
normal
decrease - 48
normal
normal
decrease - 44
normal
decrease - 40
normal
decrease - 36
normal
decrease - 32
decrease - 28
decrease - 24
decrease - 20
decrease - 16
decrease - 12
decrease - 8

Oooh that looks right! So in total I have ... 22 rounds left to do? Does that sound right?

OP posts:
BellaBear · 30/12/2007 15:17

I think it was meant to be 1st not 1s5

Miaou · 30/12/2007 15:17

sorry dutchoma, that's a typo, should read "1st"

OP posts:
BellaBear · 30/12/2007 15:18

That sounds very right

Just so you know, the socks I knitted on ravelry are not in the most attractive colourway - but I didn't choose the yarn, it was a present! I would choose MUCH more tasteful colours.

DutchOmainapeartree · 30/12/2007 15:19

Yes it does, the first count I made ignored the first decrease and the 8 stitches left over at the end.

Miaou · 30/12/2007 15:19

Thanks folks that's brilliant - will go and happily toe up now

Miaou · 30/12/2007 15:21
