That’s lovely Meryl!

Gorgeous buttons InTheNight!

Has anyone crocheted anything shaped like elephant ears by any chance? I’ve got to do the eye lids and ears of DS’s woolly mammoth and see and stuff it and then I’m finally finished, I’ve winged the hat and the trunk and the bumpy head bit but my brain has run dry at ears…

Fairislefandango · 15/05/2022 22:51

Thanks @MerylSqueak - that's definitely going on my to-make list. Did it need a lot of blocking?

MerylSqueak · 16/05/2022 06:43

Not at all. I just sprayed it. Wish has a hollow chain construction so it's quite light. I used 6 balls / 55 stitches / 10 needles but would have probably used at least an extra ball if I had had it.

It's a relaxing knit. I'm thinking of scrapping my Umaro blanket and doing this stitch instead.

The hot water bottle cover was a bust by the way. I'm going to have to double the yarn to make it thick enough.

Fairislefandango · 16/05/2022 07:24

Wow - I was surprised when I just had a look at Drops Wish, to find it was a chunky yarn. Your scarf looks more delicate than that!

sophs29 · 16/05/2022 09:10

Stunning scarf @MerylSqueak I love it! I'm so clumsy though I would catch it on everything!

@SpinMeRightRoundBabyRightRound the only thing I have crocheted is this www.repeatcrafterme.com/2014/10/e-is-for-elephant-crochet-elephant.html it's very small but might give you an idea! Can't believe you've made the pattern up yourself!

SpinMeRightRoundBabyRightRound · 16/05/2022 14:25

Thanks @sophs29! It does! You wouldn’t have any trouble believing it if you saw it, I’m hoping it’ll all come together at the end and look reasonable 😂

InTheNightWeWillWish · 16/05/2022 16:39

@SpinMeRightRoundBabyRightRound I did an elephant on a bib a while ago. I can’t remember what I did exactly but I started with a chain. I did a couple of double tr (U.K.) in the 3rd or 4th stitch, that gave you the curve on the top of the ear. Then I did some trebles working along the chain and then half trebles to make the ear tuck in. Then went back out with the trebles and double trebles. Again, a couple of double trebles in the last few stitches to get a curve on the bottom of the ear. It took a few attempts to get the ear going in at the right point and the size right.

@MerylSqueak that scarf is lovely <adds to list> 😂

sophs29 · 16/05/2022 19:07

Oh I'm sure it looks brilliant @SpinMeRightRoundBabyRightRound

SpinMeRightRoundBabyRightRound · 17/05/2022 09:54

Thanks @InTheNightWeWillWish I’ve been using trial and error to get it to look as I want so I’ve start with that 😀

StillNiceCardigan · 17/05/2022 10:05

Beautiful scarf @MerylSqueak

InTheNightWeWillWish · 17/05/2022 16:58

I have been offered the job. I had a long wish list of what I wanted and they agreed to all of it Shock The combination of hours is going to be quite hard so my crochet time might suffer, fortunately crochet and knitting can be picked up and put down as time allows.

Fairislefandango · 17/05/2022 18:36

Congratulations and very well done @InTheNightWeWillWish !!!

I've got my interview on Friday. Still, if it doesn't go as well as yours, at least I can look forward to picking up my spinning wheel the following day!

SpinMeRightRoundBabyRightRound · 17/05/2022 18:55

Wow, congratulations @InTheNightWeWillWish! That’s fantastic, well done! CakeWine

Best of luck @Fairislefandango! On both counts!

CrochetBug · 17/05/2022 19:14

Congrats @InTheNightWeWillWish

StillNiceCardigan · 17/05/2022 19:32

Congratulations @InTheNightWeWillWish !

Best of luck for Friday @Fairislefandango

InTheNightWeWillWish · 17/05/2022 20:56

Thanks all ☺️

@Fairislefandango fingers crossed for Friday. Hopefully it goes as well as mine. The new spinning wheel sounds like a great way to celebrate (or commiserate). You’re one step away with making friends with a local farmer and getting the wool direct from the sheep!

sophs29 · 17/05/2022 22:23

Congratulations @InTheNightWeWillWish that's brilliant news!! And good luck @Fairislefandango for Friday!

MerylSqueak · 18/05/2022 17:16

Well done @InTheNightWeWillWish

Fingers crossed for you @Fairislefandango

lucysmam · 18/05/2022 17:53

@InTheNightWeWillWish excellent news! Congratulations 🥂

@Fairislefandango good luck for Friday

My crochet time is suffering atm; there just aren't enough hours in the day for everything & I'm knackered by half past nine 😴

sophs29 · 19/05/2022 08:51

@InTheNightWeWillWish did you receive the second week of the CAL yesterday? Maybe I have the dates wrong but we got the first instalment last Wednesday so I assumed we'd get the second yesterday and I didn't receive it?

InTheNightWeWillWish · 19/05/2022 09:23

@sophs I didn’t receive the emails for the first or second but you can download the pattern from the sirdar website and it’s also on YouTube. Here is the link to the video for week 2 - it’s half and half squares which look really interesting and I’m excited to make them when I get round to it. I did a granny square yesterday as the car was being serviced and so I had a long time plodding around a retail park and Costa but I’m planning on starting it properly on jubilee weekend when we go camping - it’s a lot more portable than my other projects despite how many balls of wool I’ll need!

sophs29 · 19/05/2022 09:32

Oh @InTheNightWeWillWish thank you so so much! I didn't even think to try YouTube!
Yes that sounds like a plan, hopefully you'll have nice weather too!
I haven't started yet, I picked out my colours from my stash and just wasn't happy with them so I'm going to go through mums stash when I'm next round and see if she has any nicer/brighter colours. Mine are all quite muted and I think I need a few colours to "pop".

InTheNightWeWillWish · 19/05/2022 14:23

@sophs29 I joined the FB group but there are few muted palettes on there. I think it would look quite nice in a blue or grey scheme with a pop of white or yellow.

sophs29 · 19/05/2022 14:39

@InTheNightWeWillWish I haven't got any social media anymore so I can't browse for inspiration! It's funny you say about the grey, I have lots of different greys and a few whites (a plain one and a speckled one) so I could do grey, white and a pop of another colour, I just can't seem to look at the finished blanket and picture what colour to put where, I love the original colours so much, I can't imagine it in any other colour way but I am determined not to buy anymore yarn! 😬😂

InTheNightWeWillWish · 19/05/2022 15:03

@sophs29 I think my favourite colour way I’ve seen on the group is grey with denim and inky blues and some cream. I like it so much I’m tempted to make one in those colours but I don’t have those colours in my stash and I don’t need more yarn. If you used the grey and speckled white in your stash, I think speckled white would work really well as the middle colour on the half and half’s from this week.
