@YanTanTetheraPetheraPimp, that’s another lovely blanket! How are you finding it? I’ve skimmed the pattern and am confused just doing so but imagine it’s one of those things that will just make sense and fall into place as you work along. What size are you doing and is it cumbersome to work with such a big piece of knitting?!

Fairislefandango · 09/04/2022 07:43

I've decided not to make a little matching basket for dsis, as I don't have enough of the same yarns left. Instead I'm making a couple of smaller ones to put in my bathroom (for nice soaps etc). I'm using 2 strands of aran instead of 4 strands of dk - the lovely Drops Nepal left over from the sleeveless Fairisle jumper I made a while back. I love Drops yarn!

lucysmam · 09/04/2022 08:25

@Fairislefandango I do like that basket. I could do with something like that down the side of my chair maybe 🤔 Are they hard on your hands?

DiamondBright · 09/04/2022 11:37

I'm a beginner and I'm working on a scarf for dd that's going to take ages, my next project is going to be a hat for DP. I'm tempted to start the hat and then switch between the two so I don't get bored with the scarf.

Is this a good idea? Do you have more than one project underway at a time?

lucysmam · 09/04/2022 11:45

@DiamondBright erm, yes. Lots of them usually!

Fairislefandango · 09/04/2022 11:50

Yes definitely, @DiamondBright! I usually have two or occasionally three projects on the go.

@lucysmam - it's a little bit hard on the hands, but I find I get used to it pretty quickly. It's such a simple design and it gets done pretty quickly, as the 4 strands make it bulky.

Fairislefandango · 09/04/2022 16:12

@SpinMeRightRoundBabyRightRound - what do you think of this wheel? It needs a bobbin and a flyer but it's only £50 Confused and it's 10 mins down the riad from my parents' house...

SpinMeRightRoundBabyRightRound · 09/04/2022 16:39

@Fairislefandango Ooh, a new flyer will be about £60 and bobbins will be about £10-12 each, but that’s still not bad!

Would you be going to see it or would your parents be getting it for you? They’d be able to use the pedal to see if the wheel runs true. I’d like to see it with a flyer fitted to make sure there’s no weirdness there but that’s being fussy. It’s a bargain at that price if it’s all working!

Fairislefandango · 09/04/2022 16:43

My parents would have to get it. It's at least a 4hr drive from where I live. They wouldn't have a clue if there was anything wrong with it, but it might be worth a chance! What model of Ashford is it?

SpinMeRightRoundBabyRightRound · 09/04/2022 16:45

Ooh wait, I just checked that blokes other listings. I don’t think he’s a spinner, more like someone who picked it up in a house clearance or something… Either that or a prolific shoplifter. Maybe be more wary due to that, it’s more likely to be less cared for.

SpinMeRightRoundBabyRightRound · 09/04/2022 16:59

@Fairislefandango it’s a traditional

DiamondBright · 09/04/2022 17:20

Me again, I'm looking at getting some circular needles, wondering whether to get a set rather than buying them individual as I go along. Is this set any good and is the price reasonable £38.94?

Fairislefandango · 09/04/2022 17:29

@Fairislefandangoit’s a traditional

Thanks! I've checked it's ok with my parents and have just had confirmation it's still available, so I think I'm going ahead Shock

SpinMeRightRoundBabyRightRound · 09/04/2022 17:36

Oooh, exciting! Get them to make sure the wheel doesn’t have a buckle when it turns! I can’t think what the proper word is, but you know what I mean!😃

Fairislefandango · 09/04/2022 17:40

Will do - they might be picking it up tomorrow!!!

Fairislefandango · 09/04/2022 17:57

OMG - all arranged! I'm really excited - I had sort of begun to think I couldn't justify the cost, so I was thinking I might not get one! I'll no doubt be bothering you with all kinds of daft questions now, @SpinMeRightRoundBabyRightRound Grin

SpinMeRightRoundBabyRightRound · 09/04/2022 18:02

Awesome @Fairislefandango! I’m so excited for you 😀

Sorry, I missed your post in my excitement @DiamondBright! I think that is good value, the interchangeable needles are pricey individually and it gives you a good range of sizes. I really like the knit pro range and the Zing ones are really handy because they’re colour coded by size so you never have to hunt around for a needle sizer!

Fairislefandango · 09/04/2022 18:20

Looks good value to me too, @DiamondBright - I really like Knit Pro Zing! I wish I'd bought a set of interchangeable needles way back, instead of the bag of random tangled circulars I've accumulated over the last umpteen years. Once I'd bought a few it seemed like a waste to buy an interchangeable set, but I really should have done, because I keep not having quite the right one and buying more!

InTheNightWeWillWish · 09/04/2022 18:43

lucysmam Rex looks great. I’m sure he’ll be loved be your friend’s little boy. My Dino is still under construction but his head does look a bit like my labrador at the moment!

FairIsle I love the colours of the basket.

After a week of knitting I’ve completed my first square on the knit sampler blanket. It’s not even that wonky Shock and certainly a lot less wonky than my first granny square Grin

SpinMeRightRoundBabyRightRound · 09/04/2022 20:12

Oh that’s looks really good InTheNight! I like the colour and pattern!

I’m nerding out over my weaving sampler at the moment, in theory I can get 12 different patterns just by moving the heddles in a different order. I’ve fluffed up threading the middle bit so I’ve one longer repeat in the middle but I’m learning a lot of what not to do Blush

MerylSqueak · 09/04/2022 21:55

I really like Knit pro @DiamondBright but I bought the Drops interchangeable set for about£10 cheaper. It's great. I'd like some bigger that a 7 / 8mm but I'm not sure any of the small sets have those.

Exciting! @Fairislefandango. It looks gorgeous. I'd like to have it in the house just for its own sake

MerylSqueak · 09/04/2022 21:57

Oh and I love your weaving @SpinMeRightRoundBabyRightRound. If I had done that, I'd faint.

Fairislefandango · 10/04/2022 10:08

My dad is picking up the wheel at 11a.m. Smile. I've instructed him to check that it appears to run smoothly with no buckling. He says that's fine, because he may not know anything about spinning wheels but he knows plenty about wheels Grin. (He wasa keen cyclist and car-tinkerer when he was younger)!

No idea when I'll be able to actually get the wheel here - my parents are 4hrs away and they'd been intending to start coming by train when they visit us as it's duch a long drive. Can't quite imagine them taking a spinning wheel on a train...

SpinMeRightRoundBabyRightRound · 10/04/2022 11:00

Handy Grin And I’ve just seen the time! 11.00!

Thanks Meryl Smile

SpinMeRightRoundBabyRightRound · 10/04/2022 11:05

You know @Fairislefandango parcelforce rates aren’t actually too bad for big parcels compared to the price of petrol but it would take a lot of packing materials!
