Have been looking back through some of the earlier threads ...what lovely things you have all made, I wish I had found you before!

InTheNightWeWillWish · 03/04/2022 06:14

Peckham that is stunning.

I asked my mum to show me how to knit (again) yesterday… brioche looks like something to add to the list to eventually try 🤔😂

Fairislefandango · 03/04/2022 07:50

Glad you found us, @Peckhampalace! What's your next project?

Brioche is on my list of things to try, along with a whole bunch of other stuff!

Kione · 03/04/2022 12:45

Hi all!
I started making a crocheted tapestry for the wall, no pattern, I want too happy with it getting a bit wavy (not flat) and the the dog messed all the yarns.
I am
Not thinking, is it possible to make a tapestry (macrame style) with wool/yarn?
Was thinking of using a driftwood stick to hang from.
Thanks!

CrochetBug · 03/04/2022 14:45

Hi @Kione. I don't see why that wouldn't be possible. I'm sure I've seen things like that on Instagram. Smile

tizwozliz · 03/04/2022 18:44

Thread fell out of my active as I've done next to no crochet recently. Although I've picked up my blanket project the past couple of days as it's at a size that it can provide warmth as I crochet now :-)

NiceCardigan · 03/04/2022 19:03

Lovely shawl @Peckhampalace brioche is on my things to try as well.

Fairislefandango · 03/04/2022 19:11

I think your macrame-style tapestry thing sounds perfectly doable, @Kione. I'm sure I've seen nice things like that on Instagram.

Kione · 03/04/2022 19:51

Thank you, I will have a go!

sophs29 · 03/04/2022 20:25

Wow @Peckhampalace that is stunning! Love those colours together!

Hi @lucysmam ☺️ I bet you can't wait for the break and time to crochet!

Peckhampalace · 03/04/2022 23:55

I do like brioche, for what I wanted a yarn that changes colour it is very effective.

This is next, the first try of Lace knitting....I really must get new glasses as I am struggling a bit with such fine yarn but it's growing fast so won't take too long.

Hi @sophs29 I definitely am ready for the break...so are my poor knees 🤣

I've managed to do most of t-rex's limbs over the weekend; I'm considering unstuffing his body to sew on his tum & limbs maybe 🤔

How has everyone been?

@CrochetBug sorry to see you've got Covid, how are you feeling?

@Peckhampalace that's very pretty 💖

Back in the swing of things 🤣 Rexy's looking a bit like a very strangely coloured, and very deformed, chicken at the mo! I'm going to start the stego tonight & try to finish Rex tomorrow in daylight.

We're waiting in for a mantis to be delivered. A female Indian Flower this time. Dd's looking forward to talking my ears off setting up her little house 🤯🤣

Knitting is really hard to rectify when you’ve made a mistake!

Also, what’s this witchcraft that means knitting with DK is the equivalent of working with lace in crochet? I swear this DK is just one thread!

Actually, being good a crochet will really help you fix knitting mistakes InTheNight, you can purposely drop one stitch down rows until you reach a mistake and use a crochet hook to pick them back up again the right way, or drop lots and knit them back up…

Nametoname · 05/04/2022 16:05

Hello! A question for all you experienced knitters. I want to make a blanket, generous single bed size. Am a reasonably confident knitter though perhaps a little rusty but that shouldn’t matter! I’d like to do squares for a patchwork look (don’t relish sewing it together but will worry about that later!). What sort of wool should I be looking at? What size squares? How much wool do you think I might need (how long is a piece of string?!). And should I follow a pattern or just go for it with squares of whatever size?

Am thinking there’s a good chance that someone here has already done this!

Thanks.

Fairislefandango · 05/04/2022 17:58

Hi @Nametoname!
I made a squares blanket a while back. It was all one colour, with alternate squares of knit and purl, so no sewing up. On each row you just alternate a certain number of knit stitches with the same number of purl stitches, and keep doing rows like that until your row of squares is tall enough, then swap so that you're doing knit where yiu were doing purl and vice versa. I'm not sure I explained that very well, but it's super simple! Oh and you do a few stitches of garter stitch at the edges and top and bottom so it doesn't curl up.

Anyway...you could easily do that but multicoloured to achieve a patchwork effect with no sewing up. I'll see if I can link the pattern...

Fairislefandango · 05/04/2022 18:06

It's this one. Looking at the projects, although some people have done different coloured stripes of squares, I think only one person has done different colours for the separate squares - maybe it would be a pain to do...

Nametoname · 05/04/2022 18:20

Oh that’s very pretty @Fairislefandango, I hadn’t thought of doing it like that. I’ve seen a few of the type I mentioned, and loved them but will certainly keep this one in mind. Off to have a proper read of the link now! Thank you.

CrochetBug · 05/04/2022 21:15

That's my first (of 3) pattern tests finished. The other 2 both use 4ply cotton. I'm squinting a lot Grin

I like that one @CrochetBug.

Here’s my spring crochet!

Ooh pretty jumper and pretty spring things!

InTheNightWeWillWish · 06/04/2022 05:43

SpinMeRightRound I have been using a hook to rescue dropped stitches but I can’t say I’m dropping stitches intentionally!

NametoName I’m definitely not an experienced knitter but I’m very slowly (I’m 1/8 of the way through the first square) practicing this knit sampler - www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/2009-afghan. Most of the projects on Ravelry look quite big and could over a single bed, although it looks like they have done 20-24 squares rather than 12 (one for each month), the pattern uses Aran. I’m doing it in DK and I might just do the first four months a few times because after that looks a bit hard for a newbie (and my crochet WIP list is so long). I don’t relish the sewing up so even if I do push myself to do all 12, I’ll just stop at that but I’m not looking to make a blanket to go somewhere just to help me learn knitting.

SpinMeRightRoundBabyRightRound · 06/04/2022 09:16

That’s really lovely CrochetBug, it looks so bright and spring like! I like your decorations NiceCardigan!

Out of nosiness, what’s everyone’s post like for parcels? I had something posted from Wales last Monday with Royal Mail and I’m still waiting for it. I’m beginning to think I should look into foot fares for the ferry and cycle over at this point Grin

lucysmam · 06/04/2022 14:56

@NiceCardigan your bunting's pretty!

@tizwozliz would you say I need to stitch Rexy's legs further down than I have? He seems to be...not quite right & I can't put my finger on what I need to adjust (I've done his feet 3 times 🙄 before being happy with them)
