I took the plunge and bought myself a cricut 😁 absolutely loving it, about 2 weeks in and have done projects with paper, card, vinyl and HTV.

Any cricuters want to share makes, tips, tricks and ideas?

Soooo many ideas I don't know where to start!

I love my cricket!

i still can't not call it a cry cut 🤦🏻‍♀️

It took me ages not to call it a cry cut😂😂

I'm space limited at the moment since lots of our stuff is packed up to move in the new year which is annoying me.

WorriedMillie · 10/12/2022 15:45

Love the star
We called into the garden centre this morning and ended up in the Hobbycraft there. I now seem to have fallen down a sublimation wormhole
does anyone have the mug press? I have one with my 5 in 1 press, but I’m not sure how good it is 👀

I have the mug press. It's really good and takes the guess work out of how long to press etc

I cut out the Christmas village scenethat’s on Access but it’s far too big! I wish I had resized it first. Oh well! There’s another one on Jennifer Maker that’s really nice so will try that one.
Ive also been making stickers for my 4 year old neighbour who loves rainbows and unicorns. It was a bit of a fiddle to get the right kiss cut settings but got there in the end.
Do you need to by special mugs for the Cricut mug press?

SoupDragon · 11/12/2022 11:42

I think I found a free SVG for village buildings via Google last year.

I've got the Jennifer Maker one bookmarked for later though. I'm sewing fabric gift bags for bottles at the moment (not Cricut related!)

majesticallyawkward · 11/12/2022 22:20

@Ulysses the works and the range do some lovely card packs, I can't remember the actual weight but I cut on a 120(ish) gsm setting.

Spent a good 2 hours last night cutting vinyl for etching stencils. Took forever to weed and get straight... only for the etching cream to bleed on one of the jars I was doing 😭😭you can still read it, but I know the bleed is there.

That's annoying I hope it's something your own critical eye could only spot. And thank you, I got some supplies in our local The Works. Some glittery lightweight card and glue sticks from my hot glue gun.

My hot gluing technique isn't great to be honest. One of those skills that I will need to hone in my Cricut journey. My 3d stars are looking shoddy where I've had to stick them together. Oh well.

I did buy a 30 pack of blank cards too as have some birthdays coming up that I would like to do my own cards for so I can afford to balls up a few when the inevitable fails happen.

I find it difficult to do anything with fine detail using hot glue. For the stars I have used glitter glue. Takes a wee bit longer as you need to keep pressing until firmly stuck but a tiny amount is needed (don't make my mistake and use loads - paper turns to mush 😂🙈) but it doesn't go bulky like hot glue can, and a bonus is you still have finger prints after 😂

Yes that’s a good idea. It’s but of a leaning curve. I’ve made a card first time right though so have posted that off.

There’s a bit of a knack to lining up and sizing things when cutting to avoid wastage isn’t there.

Absolutely! I can spend ages getting things right on the mat to make sure there is as little wastage as possible

I got the foil kit for Christmas.

looking forward to some quality craft time!

leftitabitlate22 · 26/12/2022 10:53

Any good suggestions of good sites to see what a cri cut can do before I invest? It's one of those things I've looked at many times in hobbycraft but not entirely sure what I'll use it for.

PikachusSmarterBrother · 26/12/2022 11:24

I'm like you @leftitabitlate22 - I just can't work out what the different models can do, so I've never went for it! If I could see a clear table comparing the different models, and some different projects, then I might go for it 😄.

Ulysses · 26/12/2022 12:47

This site Jennifer Maker has a helpful guide and you can see what kind of projects you can do.

I got a scoring wheel set and they really do add a nice touch for making cards precisely. I made a few personalised money wallets as well for the teenagers in the family and a couple of pillow boxes for small gifts.

Enjoy your foiling @SoupDragon! I got one for my Joy and it is a really good effect for cards. I do remember it was a bit finicky taping down the foil to the card so it doesn't move about.

Excited101 · 26/12/2022 20:32

hi everyone!

just before Christmas I got a load of Cricut stuff from a friend, his partner, another friend of mine, died a few months back (im still absolutely devastated about the loss tbh 😢) he gave me all her Cricut stuff- other than the machine itself (which I already have). So I got a sublimation printer, mug press, medium heat press (I already have the large and tiny ones) vinyl and loads of blanks, sub mugs, coasters etc etc etc!

I’m feeling incredibly overwhelmed by it all tbh. I wasn’t really considering the mug press or sub set up but I do want to make use of it all. I haven’t had chance to have a full look of what’s there yet but in the next few days I plan to get it all out to see what it all is.

WorriedMillie · 29/12/2022 08:30

I’m not surprised you’re feeling overwhelmed, it’s a lot to take in and to receive, especially given the circumstances 🌸
give it time (but keep an eye on the sub printer, as apparently the ink can dry up

I had a sub set up and heat press for Christmas, but I’m poorly in bed (have been in hospital, need to get Strength up) so haven’t tried it yet

keri17 · 04/01/2023 08:48

We’ve ended up with a Maker 3 and the everything bundle over Christmas, we seem to have dived head first Into iron on 😂

am I right in saying the cricut joy iron ons are fine to use on a mat?

ifoundthebread · 04/01/2023 13:53

I have been using an explore air 2 since last Christmas, was gifted a maker this Christmas, turned out to have a faulty usb connection terminal. Cricut agreed to replace it, on the grounds it can be used via bluetooth but should work via usb if i choose to use it that way. Theyve just emailed to say they dont have stock of the maker so will be replacing it with the maker 3, ive seen alot of posts on fb groups im in saying they dont like the maker 3, does anyone in this thread prefer it? Or am i doomed to be using a maching i dont like.

I only have the original Maker (annoyingly there IS no maker 2 - it's Maker > Maker 3) because I'm cheap and the smart vinyl stuff is more expensive so why would I bother? That's the only real reason I didn't go for the 3 to be fair.

People tend to get a little bit tribal and the US crafting groups go absolutely insane so I take everything with a pinch of salt online - if it works - it works.

I was happy with the maker, like you say why pay more, i dont use cricut brand anything tbh, except the machine. Think it may be a case of only seeing posts about the maker 3 not working, because afterall who is going to post for advice about their machine working okay.

keri17 · 05/01/2023 13:47

I can’t say I have any idea about the difference between the two, but our Maker 3 is breeze for even me, and I haven’t the foggiest 😂 I am big on tech tho and I much preferred how much the 3 had to offer
