I took the plunge and bought myself a cricut 😁 absolutely loving it, about 2 weeks in and have done projects with paper, card, vinyl and HTV.

Any cricuters want to share makes, tips, tricks and ideas?

Soooo many ideas I don't know where to start!

Ah, this thread could be dangerous for me! I've been looking at cricuts, and just can't get my head around what I would need.

So let's say I'm a complete beginner, and I mostly just want to make labels/decals to go on fabric or furniture - what should I be looking at buying?

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 14/06/2022 07:51

Just marking my place as I was given one yesterday!

KitKattaktik · 14/06/2022 10:23

I've been given one too! So far I've cut my name 😂 and some decal initials. I've yet to have a good play with it. 😊

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 14/06/2022 11:30

I'm excited! 😂

MajesticallyAwkward · 14/06/2022 17:31

@MrsPelligrinoPetrichor so exciting!

I've not done much for a while but have a project to start soon, a memorial plaque for my mums dog who passed recently. Just got his paw print back so want to make it an svg file along with his vectorised picture... I just can't bring myself to do it yet.

So I've just realised I actually have an embosser rather than a cricut. Oh well,I'll have a play with it and see if it's useful.

That sounds like a nice project ,but sad 😢

I just got a Cricut Joy. I have so far made an insert card and cut out some letters. My head is spinning with possibilities and I am meant to be working! Save me! 😂

Oh gosh I'm still the same a year on! Haha I have so many projects ready to go... and so little time to do them.

Looking for ways to combine my reignited love of crochet and amigurumi with cricut too

SergeiL · 03/08/2022 15:01

Ooh - now that sounds like a challenge! I seem to be continually looking around for things to put words on to!

RagingWoke · 03/08/2022 16:25

@SergeiL so far I've come up with using it to cut out felt eyes because I can't crochet an eye 😂 maybe a bit of glittery HTV to make them pop.

I do love a card project, glitter shakers are fun for birthdays! Or shadow boxes, you can jazz them up with vinyl and lights

CoffeeWithCheese · 21/08/2022 11:01

I switched my Explore up to a Maker the other month (the Explore went to my mum who is worse than me for craft hoarding)... so much quieter cutting.

I actually use mine a lot for making prompt cards for therapy work - generate a grid of pictures (I have a widgit subscription), screenshot and save into design space and remove the background - and print and cut onto card with a sheet of laminate over the top. Saves me a load of time just doing that rather than having to feed the laminator then cut it all out by hand.

Having said that at the moment I'm just making a paper flower wreath - bought the frames ages ago and haven't got round to it until now. And stickers - my laptop stickers got tatty so I took them off and need to re-do them on it.

Anyone still up for Cricut chat? I’m getting a Maker for Christmas but it’s here now ready to be played with. I’m wondering what Christmas stuff people are making. I want to make 3d stars because I already have gold card. I also love the paper villages.

WorriedMillie · 09/12/2022 20:37

I have the explore, have used it far more than I thought I would. I haven’t done much paper craft stuff with it, despite that being my first crafting love! I find the cutting and settings a bit hit and miss with different card stock, but would love to master it!
I’ve done a fair few baubles with vinyl, which look effective

I got a 5 in 1 swing heat press for my birthday and have been hammering that, making t shirts and tote bags, this past few months

I bought my daughter the Joy a few months back, she hasn’t used it loads, due to being so busy with school stuff, but she’s got 3 weeks off at Christmas and has some bits coming from my mum, so is planning some projects for then

majesticallyawkward · 09/12/2022 20:48

@Ulysses I made a Jennifer maker advent calendar maybe a little late now but it's gorgeous! Made with one of the card books from the range.
Also made some card wreaths and things to decorate gifts, I'm trying to keep wrapping recyclable so brown paper with the wreaths, poinsettias, snowmen etc in card or crocheted and I've made some flat card baubles to use as gift tags.

I've been doing some etching, a friend asked me to do some jars for some gin she's made and I did a little coffee set for a colleague with an 'in joke'.

A heat press is a serious bit of kit! Do you sell stuff?

That advent calendar is lovely. Where do you get your supplies from? I just watched a Jennifer Maker tutorial for a paper star lantern and it was proper Cricut fancy foil poster board.

Yes there’s so many paper weights to get your head round. I had both cutting everyday card with the Joy. It would often stop sticking properly so would get gnarled up while it was cutting out.

Ulysses · 09/12/2022 21:13

I got the older Maker rather than the Maker so I could use the extra money to spend on materials. It’s not a cheap hobby is it?

No, I don’t sell, I just make for family and friends (and gifts)
I absolutely love it! I had the mini cricut one originally, but it was a bit limited as to what it could do

The 3d stars are great! Easy to put together too.

I made the nutcracker that's on design space - he's really good and easy to put together too.

Have also done 3d shadow boxes.

I love my cricket!

SoupDragon · 10/12/2022 09:43

I love my cricket!

i still can't not call it a cry cut 🤦🏻‍♀️

SoupDragon · 10/12/2022 09:46

This has reminded me that I need to get my little gingerbread house out again!

Ulysses · 10/12/2022 09:49

That gingerbread house was lovely. I’m away to get my Crycut (my pronunciation) out the box!

Ulysses · 10/12/2022 10:27

My first star! Imperfect but so simple and effective! My house is going to be covered in them.

I’m away to order a hot glue gun too so I can make bigger versions to stick together.

SoupDragon · 10/12/2022 10:29

Lovely!

i clearly need to clear space on the table to get my Explore out!
