I took the plunge and bought myself a cricut 😁 absolutely loving it, about 2 weeks in and have done projects with paper, card, vinyl and HTV.

Any cricuters want to share makes, tips, tricks and ideas?

Soooo many ideas I don't know where to start!

Oh, these projects look great!

I think I'd like a Cricut, but I can't get a handle on what they can do and the differences between them. I'd love a website with lots of pictures showing you what you could do with each of the different models - does such a thing exist?

SoupDragon · 17/12/2021 17:52

I love the paper villages

I have a few paper villages earmarked. I'm not sure I'll get chance this year though.

I bought mine at the start of the very first lockdown. I went for the Explore Air2 which seemed to be the middle of the range. The Joy is smaller.

You can download the Designspace and it will show you projects there. You might need to sign up for the free trial though.

Or there's loads on Pinterest but you need to sort the wheat from the chaff.

MajesticallyAwkward · 17/12/2021 20:31

@handmademitlove it's a design space one.

That gingerbread house is gorgeous @SoupDragon!

I've wasted quite a lot of the Cricut branded premade cards so I'm going to look at other cheaper options.

Ulysses If you find a cheaper brand let me know, I’ve tried some from Amazon and also Hobbycraft but I don’t find that they cut as well and as easily as the proper Cricut ones.

SoupDragon · 18/12/2021 11:51

What glue are you all using?

I watched the "wreath making" competition on Kirstie's show and the paper crater was using a syringe filled with glue - I wish I hadn't thrown out all my calpol syringes now!

I have a refillable pen like tube that has ancient PVA in it from when the kids were small which is good for small detail areas.

These might be a good investment SoupDragon Fine Tip Glue Applicator

Gah I wasted quite a bit of foils yesterday making a thank you card for a friend. The tape to stick the foils down marked the black card I was using. It was cheap stuff from B&Ms but I though it would like really effective with gold foil.

My failures are far outweighing my successes with my makes. I think it's worse when you are making things for other people. I've designed a Christmas card for DDs teacher so I'm going to try and get that done today. My first attempt didn't go great so ive changed the font and hoping that one's a bit sturdier for cutting out.

SoupDragon · 19/12/2021 08:37

I've added those to my Amazon wish list 🙂

CricutKeeno · 20/12/2021 12:47

Ohh I was tempted by the foil kit for ages but read mixed things so went away from it in the end… 🤔

I’ve made a few things recently I’ve been really chuffed with! They’re not technically hard things though, so not quite as impressive to cricut people!!

I’m making a set of 2 glass mugs for my cleaner and her daughter today. But I wasn’t sure if one should say ‘mum’ and the other the daughter’s name, or the mum’s name (obviously what I call her!) and the daughter’s name.

CricutKeeno · 20/12/2021 12:49

Oh! I did do this for a secret Santa, the black is sparkly and looks amazing!

very nice!

I've just finished my "in person" Christmas shopping so I might reward myself with a few hours crafting.

MajesticallyAwkward · 21/12/2021 08:42

@CricutKeeno that's gorgeous!!

Thank you!! It does look a lot better in real life too 😬
I’ve got a whole list of cricutting to do before Christmas, at this rate I’ll be taking everything back to my parents house and finishing it off there on Christmas Eve but I’d rather not!

CricutKeeno · 22/12/2021 15:07

And last night’s/today’s make!

The laurels and cocoa shaker were an absolute nightmare to weed! My own fault for choosing something so thin I guess…
I did bung the ‘hot chocolate’ on too quickly before realising I’d not planned a design and I’d done it too high up 🤦‍♀️ Bit of a nightmare! I’m pleased with the final look though!

SoupDragon · 22/12/2021 17:08

They're lovely - and I can well imagine what a pain the thin bits were!

I've made a paper church. It needs something to add more stability though. What I want to do now is work out how to make my own house design

Lovely makes!
I've been working on a shadow box as a gift from my dc to their uncle... good lord it took 7 attempts to get the top layer cut right. But it's done now and I'm happy with it.

All the made gifts are done now though, including this for dh (excuse the creases, haven't ironed the whole thing yet).

Great t shirt!

I've not attempted anything like that yet. I put logos on face masks to DSs last year but they were tiny bits of vinyl.

I'm trying to get to grips with Design Space and failing miserably. It's crap!

MajesticallyAwkward · 23/12/2021 16:13

@SoupDragon I don't mind it, but I'm used to working with different software and it's a lot easier than Visio haha
I do find DS easier in the app than desktop generally, and lots of tutorial videos have helped.

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 23/12/2021 16:14

I've tried desktop and iOS app. It just isn't intuitive.

I want to either create my own house pattern or amend an existing one and can't do either.

WorriedMillie · 23/12/2021 17:02

I’m loving these makes, thank you for sharing!
I’m having a Joy for Christmas, I also joined some FB groups and immediately felt overwhelmed, so I’m planning to back pedal a bit and start simple!

Datsandcogs · 23/12/2021 19:35

Simple ornaments for me! (Lovely makes from the rest of you - can’t imagine the complexities of the gingerbread house, beautiful!)

Is there an alternative to design space?

Emmelina · 24/12/2021 11:48

Mind if I tag along?
Got a Joy wrapped for my DD and may need some tips and ideas Xmas Smile
