@Hookalong. Hello. I knit & crochet. I learnt to knit as a child and just get the urge to knit I learnt to crochet from YouTube. I had tried a couple of times with people showing me, but only briefly. I still mostly do Granny squares as I can do that while watching TV etc and corner to corner I enjoy doing.

However, I spend much more time chatting, thinking, procrastinating than I do actually k or c 🤣🤣

Be careful with your hands! Schedule times in to relax them & stretch!! That's another reason I'm not doing much currently, after surgery middle of last year, I'm not supposed to sit still or do repetitive or restrictive movement for very long and I have to set an alarm to help me remember to move!

Is your blanket for you or a gift? What colour?? Is it one big c2c or made up of smaller squares? Are you attempting a picture/character?

@lucysmam
how did your shopping go?

lucysmam · 16/01/2022 09:39

Not very well @JugglingJanuary 🙄 I got three tops and a new pair of black jeans - one of the TA's who has been there 10 years wears black so I thought I'd go with them in case anyone did say anything about the indigo ones. Two of the tops were reduced, and only £3 each, though, so I'm even less fussed than I would have been if they get messy.

Dd1 picked a skirt and jumper for her birthday too, and I got my boots fixed, finally, so I don't have to wear the UGGs so I don't get soggy feet! I hate the UGGs...I trip over my feet in them 🤣 and they look like slippers.

I suppose, with more money coming in, I can add bits as I see them, so it's not all bad. And I still have some birthday/Christmas money left. It's burning a hole in my pocket but I'm resisting the urge to buy yarn 🤣

Hookalong · 16/01/2022 11:25

@JugglingJanuary Hi. I have made things like hats, wristwarmers and discloths but they are all a bit wonky and it was only when I tried C2C that I felt I could make something that looked nice. Then I bought a load of wool in a sale. It's going to be a long project!
Pic attached. I'm aiming for about 4'x6'. I asked DH to help me draw a plan and he spent the whole day on some complicated computer program Grin
I have RA and a history of wrist and tendon problems so I try to limit time to half an hour at a time.

@lucysmam Knitted socks sound fun. I think I'd like to try that if they can be crocheted.

DS(23) has his GF over for the weekend. She crochets and apparently there is a knit and crochet club at her uni. Who'd have thought!

@Hookalong they're crocheted socks! I can't co-ordinate knitting well enough 🤣 I'm working on the ones in the pic at the mo but not sure I'd buy another of their patterns - it's confusing & very wordy. Took me weeks to work out how to start 🤔

I made the bright ones with flowers too - they were fairly simple once I got the hang of them & they're very warm (although my lot laugh at me for my big bed socks 🤣)

I’m wearing my jumper so feeing very pleased with myself!

Welcome to the new joiners Grin

I’m working on improving my crochet and would love to be able to follow an actual pattern. I thought crochet might be a bit easier for my dodgy left wrist but it isn’t so I should really limit how much I do too. I’m currently making a doorstop that looks like a Lego brick which is a nice easy project.

NiceCardigan · 16/01/2022 12:15

@lucysmam ooh crochet socks that’s a whole new world to me (goes off to look at possible patterns)

Hookalong · 16/01/2022 13:46

@lucysmam Now that's what I call a sock Grin

crazyjinglist · 16/01/2022 13:57

Thanks for the heads-up about the spinning wheel @FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack - unfortunately it's 3hrs away from me! When we moved to Cumbria, I was thinking 'Ooh we'll be near our friends in Scotland (Aberdeen)' Ummm... nope, still 5 hours away Shock.

I'm loving making my mittens. They are going to be so cosy - this yarn is so thick and soft! I had an eek moment a minute ago though - the cream ball of yarn rolled off the sofa and bounced off the edge of my cup of tea Shock. I don't think blue and tea-stained would be such a great colour scheme!

@lucysmam. That sounds like a successful shopping expedition to me!! Did DD chose 'her' yarn? Excellent that you finally got your boots mended!!

@NiceCardigan. Any chance of a photo of you wearing your new jumper? I'd love to see it on.

You're doing well not to spend it all on yarn... BUT it IS present money!!

@Hookalong. It's looking great & very, very neat!! All My bigger projects I've done as squares and put them together. Maybe next winter I'll do an all-in-one blanket!??

Laughing at your poor DH writing a program 🤣

Are you familiar with Ravalry? It's free and there are patterns for everything! Many of the free. It has a very good filter system so it's pretty easy to find what you need & loads of photos of reader knits/crochets.

@crazyjinglist. Oops!! Sounds like a lucky miss though!

crazyjinglist · 16/01/2022 15:14

Can't believe we're heading towards the end of thread no.7! Time to start thinking about a new thread title... anyone got any bright ideas?

NiceCardigan · 16/01/2022 16:09

Here you are @JugglingJanuary!

tizwozliz · 16/01/2022 16:34

Do you have a link to the Lego brick doorstep pattern @NiceCardigan ?

NiceCardigan · 16/01/2022 16:40

It’s here @tizwozliz. hookstitchsew.com/2014/11/07/lego-doorstop/

I’m making mine to cover an actual brick that DH has started using as a doorstop Hmm

InTheNightWeWillWish · 16/01/2022 18:12

This week on the temperature blanket has been pretty boring! But I guess it’s less ends to sew in. I have 15,678 WIPs on the couch at the minute. DH keeps wanting to sit next to me 🙄 the dog keeps climbing on the couch and the other dog keeps running off with yarn so all my WIPs have got tangled together. I’ve two left to untangle and then I might actually try to do some crochet with the many WIPs.

Crazy lovely mittens. One of my WIPs is blue and white and I imagine when I’ve untangled it I’ll find it’s blue and mud coloured from the dog 🙄

Nice jumper nicecardigan Grin

Hookalong nice blanket. I like the C2C stitch, with the right yarn it can work up quite quickly. I have a fairytale blanket book and all of those are based on C2C.

tizwozliz · 16/01/2022 18:33

I'm so behind on my temperature blanket for last year. Might finish it by Christmas 2022

sophs29 · 16/01/2022 18:37

Wow! Such love things on here! That jumper is stunning! And I always like the look of C2C but never actually looked into how it's done!

Welcome to all the new ones to the thread ☺️

crazyjinglist · 16/01/2022 21:55

The jumper looks fab on you, @NiceCardigan! I'm speeding along (for me!) on my first mitten and have managed to work out what the instructions for the thumb were on about! The star in the middle is beginning to take shape now.

JugglingJanuary · 16/01/2022 23:16

@NiceCardigan. Thank you! I loved it laid flat , but it looks even better on! It's a great fit on you too.

@InTheNightWeWillWish it's a nice piece though!! I'm impressed at your commitment & not falling behind like @tizwozliz!! But she's left me in her dust as mine is still as it arrived from wool warehouse!! 🙄🙄

@sophs29

@crazyjinglist. Gloves are looking good!! c2c is lovely to do because it's not boring, but also unless you're doing a picture, you don't need a pattern, so it's great to pick up & put down.

InTheNightWeWillWish · 16/01/2022 23:55

@JugglingJanuary well, I’m only 8 weeks in and I’m not as efficient as I was a few weeks ago. There’s plenty of time for me to fall off the wagon. I’m trying to stay committed as otherwise I’ll still be making the temperature blanket when DD is 21.

@sophs29 C2C is a nice watching TV or messing about doing 20 other things stitch. It’s really easy to count your rows and work out where you are. It’s a pick up and put down project.

JugglingJanuary · 17/01/2022 07:31

@InTheNightWeWillWish I may have a half knit baby cardigan where the baby now has had her 30th birthday Blush

sophs29 · 17/01/2022 07:36

Ahh @InTheNightWeWillWish I might have to have a look into it more!

@crazyjinglist that mitten is looking lovely! I love the blue and cream together!

lucysmam · 17/01/2022 20:38

@crazyjinglist that's looking beautiful 🥰

I'm worn out I didn't even have a particularly taxing morning, and only the one incident at lunch time! Few rounds of socks, in front of an episode of Glee, & it'll be bed time for me 😴

Has anyone seen a pattern for similar to this? I'm sure there were some on a thread last year but I didn't think to save any of them 🤯

Knit, Crochet and Natter 7: the School of Stitchcraft and Wizardry
CrochetBug · 17/01/2022 21:24

Lots of lovely work as always. I've been ill in bed for 2 days so DS2 bought me some lucozade and it's doing wonders. I managed a slice of toast and watched a whole movie this evening!

Someone posted gloves that they bought, they are beautiful but how well do they fit? I've seen lots of patterns for mitts that shape, but my middle finger isn't that much longer than the others so I'm not sure what the fit would be like.

In a bid to finish some WIPs I finished my socks, but can't remember where I put the first one. I mean, I know it's in the yarn cupboard but I can't find it Grin

Then I decided my next WIP to finish was my corner to corner blanket. I only started it in 2018 so there's an indication of how much I'm enjoying it Hmm

@lucysmam I've got a few saved on my Ravelry. I'll. Go and have a look.

MerylSqueak · 18/01/2022 06:43

@CrochetBug that was me with the gloves. There is s lot of room inside them. They're more suitable for a frosty walk than going shopping and trying to get your card out of your purse.
