Thanks Meryl Blush it’s so much easier to pick up than knitting though!

lucysmam · 04/01/2022 14:21

I've just had an email about my interview... I need to read a story to EYFS. Reading kids books is my nemesis; it makes me yawn my head off 🤣 I'm going on a hunt for Kitchen Disco in EY after work tomorrow, they don't know that yet though. It's quite a fun and interactive book, I think, so might disguise my yawns Confused

crazyjinglist · 04/01/2022 14:32

Ooh good luck @lucysmam! I'm sure you'll have them eating out of your hand!

MerylSqueak · 04/01/2022 14:57

Good luck @lucysmam!

Had a whole day's knitting yesterday. I now have three WIP. Grin Return to school tomorrow. I'm rather worried about the next few weeks. I'm a qualified teacher but working as a TA. Because I am deaf I find it extremely stressful being left with a whole class. I'm dreading being asked to cover.

lucysmam · 04/01/2022 17:08

We already have a lunchtime supervisor off & we haven't even gone back yet 🙈 (I don't know about teaching staff yet - this one just messaged for a chat) I forsee an actual shit show 🤔🤯 Apparently our HT is sorting cover but goodness knows where from; there are less than 30 staff in the entire school including SLT, admin, cleaners & caretaker 🤷‍♀️

Anyway; both toe pieces of DD1's socks are done. 10 rows each for the foot pieces next.

Good luck lucysmam. Have you got time to crochet a few of those pinned crochet food items you have on Pinterest? Then if you feel a yawn coming on, you could throw some crocheted food out?

Meryl fingers crossed the next few weeks aren’t too stressful and you aren’t asked to cover.

My Tunisian crochet cowl has stalled as I’ve lost the stopper for the cable. I have spares with the rest of the hooks but they got tidied away when we had visitors between Christmas and New Year and they aren’t immediately obvious in my yarn cupboard.

NiceCardigan · 04/01/2022 17:39

Good luck lucysman!

I hope it isn’t too stressful for all those working in schools. I’m grateful at the moment that my job just involves sitting in my office at home and I don’t have to get the train in anymore.

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 04/01/2022 19:07

Best of luck lucysmam! And good luck finding a good book, hopefully being able to pick will make all the difference!

Meryl oooh, what are your WIP's?
That does sound stressful, fingers crossed this Jan and Feb won't be as bad as last year's now everybody should have their booster...

I kind of want to start a new project because I'm nearly finished my lace yoke and then it's all stocking stitch until the ribbing. I found a slipover pattern I quite fancy making leknit.com/shop/stence-slipover-uk-485p.html

CrochetBug · 05/01/2022 18:06

Good luck @lucysmam. I've lost count of how many times i nearly fell asleep reading to the boys when they were little Grin

Finished DS1s hat. Sewing it up was seriously fiddly! But that's one less WIP than I had this morning. So only about 7557 left Wink

I really like reading aloud (but dislike being read aloud to Confused). It's probably a teacher thing. We generally like the sound of our own voices Grin.

crazyjinglist · 05/01/2022 19:52

Btw so much for my 'no MN except this thread' resolution. Not only have I already totally failed on that front, I've also developed a brand new Tiktok habit Blush. In my defende, I only watch millions of cooking videos, and they are actually inspiring me out of my cooking rut!

lucysmam · 05/01/2022 20:03

🤣 my kids keep trying to convince me to download Tiktok...so far I have resisted & just watch the random video they, and my colleagues, send my way 🙄

InTheNightWeWillWish · 05/01/2022 20:13

So confession - I’m becoming a bit of a Luddite! Blush

I’m 31 and in a previous role I was the youngest person in the organisation so default ‘social media guru’. I’m on FB but rarely post, I’m on here, I have a Twitter account but I don’t know my username Grin and on Pinterest but don’t interact with anyone! I have no interest in any other social media and I try to limit the amount of apps I have. Before DD was born we went to John Lewis to do the baby guide thing and the assistant kept saying “there’s an app that comes with this”, “there’s an app for that”. I asked her if we could parent without an app and she looked at me Hmm I’m on a smart phone but I do see myself in the not too far future reverting to the simple phone and searching everywhere for one that just calls (and maybe takes pictures because… dogs, crochet and baby).

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 05/01/2022 20:16

Oh that's absolutely gorgeous CrochetBug! I love it!

That sounds productive though lazy! Any recipe recommendations so far? Smile

crazyjinglist · 05/01/2022 20:16

My dc sneer at Tiktok and were very eye-rolly about me getting it... until I started cooking nice things from the videos Grin.

I mostly look at savoury recipes, but I just saw a video where they line a baking tray with Kinder chocolate bars, cover that with rows of big marshmallows, then bake until the marshmallows are toasted with a layer of molten chocolate underneath, and scoop it up with biscuits Shock

CrochetBug · 05/01/2022 20:27

Confession time.

I spend so much time on MN that my phone has "pixel burn" meaning some parts of the site are permanently burned into my phone screen. As if that isn't bad enough DS2 pointed out that it is also burned into my old phone screen (which is now his) Blush

Other than that I'm also a technophobe really. Luckily DS1 is really into tech so I just ask him to do stuff.

@InTheNightWeWillWish I'm always shocked at how many things people seem to need apps for these days. I'm always a bit Confused when I see people on here recommending apps to monitor baby's feeds and nappy changes etc (medical issues aside). Back in my day (Wink) we fed baby when it was hungry and changed its nappy when it was wet/dirty.

Thanks @FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack

crazyjinglist · 05/01/2022 21:19

That sounds productive thoughlazy! Any recipe recommendations so far.

Well I did a simple lunch thing that went down very well with me and ds. Beat one egg and season. Add to hot frying pan and top with 2 slices cheese. Press tortilla wrap down on top, leave for 30 secs . Flip over with spatula, add 2 more slices cheese and some ham or chorizo slices on top while the underneath of the tortilla toasts a bit. Fold sides of tortilla over and serve. It's kind of an omelette wrap!

lucysmam · 05/01/2022 22:04

That sounds like something dd1 would enjoy @lazylinguist! I'll have to see if there are any eggs left after they've baked a cake at the weekend (this cake is meant to be for my 40th birthday, on Sunday...which hasn't been mentioned yet this week 🤔)

I had no idea "pixel burn" was a thing! Is it just from repeated use of certain sites/apps & the layout transfers to the screen?

crazyjinglist · 05/01/2022 22:09

Ooh a big birthday then, @lucysmam! That makes you a decade younger than me, you young whippersnapper Grin

NiceCardigan · 05/01/2022 22:19

I seem to be trawling through recipes all the time at the moment, me and DS are doing Veganuary and I need inspiration. I hope you have a nice birthday lucysmam and that the cake gets made!

sophs29 · 05/01/2022 22:22

Happy new year everyone! Sorry I'm a bit late to the party like usual 😂 I thought I'd commented on here and it either disappeared or I imagined doing it!

I left all social media nearly 4 years ago now, I use Pinterest every day but also do not interact on it iyswim! Everyone thought I was a weirdo as I was mid 20's and "cut myself off from the world" but it was one of the best things I done and really helped my mental health at the time!

MerylSqueak · 05/01/2022 23:08

I think you and my DD might be besties @crazyjinglist. You have very similar interests! She's 14 Grin

Lovely hat @CrochetBug. Love things with natural motifs.

I'm not all that thrilled with my wips @FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack. One is my endless blue scarf which I lovely but time consuming. One is a grey version of the green scarf but it's not as nice as the green one because it isn't fancy wool. The third one is a bedspread which is simply going to take forever and a day. I will like them all when they're done though.

I'm not big on social media. I'm minimally on Facebook but mainly because I have a sideline bit of work I need it for. I don't post much. I'm on Pinterest but don't interact either. I don't feel I have time for it tbh.

Is it the interview tomorrow @lucysmam? Fingers and toes crossed for you but I'm sure you'll be fab.

crazyjinglist · 06/01/2022 07:19

I think you and my DD might be besties @crazyjinglist. You have very similar interests! She's 14 grin

Grin Ah well, at least I'm young at heart then, even if it sounds like most of you are younger than me in actual age!

CrochetBug · 06/01/2022 08:35

@lucysmam yep that's exactly what pixel burn is. How embarrassing!!!!

I don't know why, but I see you (and @sophs29) in my head as being in your 20s. That's not a bad thing BTW. So I'm a bit mind-blown that you're almost 40! It also makes no sense as you have teens so probably aren't in your 20s Grin

sophs29 · 06/01/2022 09:44

Oh and good luck @lucysmam I hope it goes well whenever it is! ☺️

@CrochetBug I am in my 20's, well late 20s now! Its funny isn't it how you picture people in your head just by talking to them anonymously! Your DS's hat is gorgeous by the way! Love that pattern! I need to catch up on the thread I just never have time! Bet I've missed some lovely things!
