I want to knit this (or a version of it)

I saw a sweater in Toast the other day, it was so lovely. Then I looked at the price tag. £395!

I can knit, but not well enough to know what I could substitute for the reclaimed wool used in this sweater. I want the random colour look. Nor where to find a pattern for a simple round neck raglan sleeve jumper.

This is the sweater www.toa.st/products/remnant-yarn-hand-knitted-sweater-ecru-multi

Any ideas for substitute yarns and patterns?

I'm happy to spend up to £100 on decent yarn, but not sure where to start? Is it DK? Could I use mohair? Or mohair and silk?

This is the sweater in case you don't want to go visiting the website.

sirdar.com/en/products/women-s-crew-neck-raglan-sweater-in-sirdar-jewelspun
This is knitted in Aran weight. You could do a search for variegated or self striping yarns in the same guage, if you didn't want the 100% acrylic shown here.
The pattern had caught my eye earlier because I'm after a simple jumper to knit and this seems to fit the bill.

What about something like this, lengthening the rib on the cuffs? www.petiteknit.com/collections/adult/products/copy-of-ingen-dikkedarer-sweater?variant=27831340296

The toast one certainly looks fluffier, maybe mohair.

yarnsub.com/ is a really good website for working out what yarn you can use in a pattern with similar results. This pattern might be a good place to start www.yarnspirations.com/gb/caron-adult-knit-crew-neck-pullover/CAK0129-008039M.html?cgid=092818-sweater-weather-patterns&utm_campaign=2019_01_Curated_SweaterLove&utm_content=CaronAdultKnitCrewneckPullover&utm_medium=social&utm_source=pinterest

Yarn search site for finding alternatives to fit a pattern: yarnsub.com/

The only thing you might have to edit in that pattern is to make the sleeve bigger and looser, and then reduce going into the cuffs in a way that still gives you the full sleeves.

I would choose a couple of beautiful hand dyed yarns from Etsy in similar tones and mix them up as you go. It is a lovely jumper!

Wow! Massive thanks to you all, I'll start looking at all this stuff in the morning. I'm bowled over by the help. Smile

A melange yarn will give a similar look, Rico have some nice options.

That looks a lot like Lærke Bagger's work

She did a free pattern over lockdown

If that pattern doesn't work for you, Flax by TinCanKnits is very simple to follow and you could leave off the garter stitch pattering in the sleeves if you want less baggy sleeves and more of a typical raglan.

I'd use one strand of white mohair throughout and and mix in all the other yarns randomly if it was me doing it.

Pattern not patterning!
