I've a knitting pattern question

I've knittted a cardigan and while doing it I found this part of the sleeve pattern confusing, and when it was finished I thought the sleeve shape looked a bit odd.

I'm now doing it again in a different colour and am hoping someone can help. I'm working on the 3rd size so when I change to 4mm needles I have 34 stitches. Row 1 and 2 is fine, there's 15 stitches either side of the middle 4 stitches which form a cable pattern.

In row 3 it says inc in 1st stitch, so I now have 16 stitches but it only tells me what to do with 14 of them. Then after the CB4 it tells me what to do with 13 stitches, tells me to increase 1 stitch, and then a purl 1 so again tells me what to do with 14 stitches but I have 16.

For the one that I did I just tried to follow the knit/purl pattern but I'm wondering if I did it wrong.

When you increase in the stitch, the increase and the original stitch move to the left needle (assuming you knit right handed). You increase by knitting front and back of the stitch, so you would go from having 15 stitches before the cable section to 14 before cabling on the right needle and two stitches in the left needle. Same on the other side of the cable, when you increase you knit front and back so original stitch and increase are on the left leaving you one stitch left to purl. Does that make sense?
