String Art

Hi is there anyone here that makes string art, I want to have a shot of trying it but I’m not sure what wood to get and where is the best place price wise.

I've done it with my kids - just went to the local hardware shop, got some offcuts of wood (pine I think) so pretty cheap - less than £2 a piece
Painted the wood with some left over emulsion paint.
While that dried we drew out our template on paper (they wrote their names then I went round them to make them 'fat letters' if that makes sense - like bubble writing). Stick it onto the wood (once paint was dry)
Got some tacks (ones with wide heads are best).
Hammered them in through the paper template.
Removed the paper template.
Used sewing thread to go round the nails.
