It was, but the company sort of owned you in Finland, they owned a lot of housing, so gave cheap rents to employees, along with the leisure/sport in the basement there was a medical centre. They also had summer cottages you could book for holidays

Leaningtoweroflisa · 22/03/2021 20:33

Oh dear, I’m such an idiot- I was wondering how you’d knit Errol’s lovely wings, lucysmam! 😂

Feeling v out of sorts, think schools being back = hello random viruses, my throat is sore and my ear is blocked. Plus I tried on my work in progress jumper, still have about 8-10 inches of body to knit and the end of the circular needle popped out of its little metal house. Dropped some stitches while managing to salvage most of them. It’s 2 strands of fluffy yarn held together and it is going to be a FAFF to pick those bad boys up again.

Yes please to compulsory craft breaks. I knit during the many, many online meetings as at least that way I accomplish something real...

lucysmam · 22/03/2021 21:16

@Leaningtoweroflisa funnily enough I do need to add wings to crochet Errol now real Errol has his! I'm just not sure where to start yet - the panel in the pattern I made crochet Errol from isn't anywhere near the shape of his wings

I have to say, working from home means I've introduced my

BookShark · 22/03/2021 23:57

Oops...

I've introduced my own craft breaks. It's amazing how much you can switch off if you take an hour for lunch and sit and crochet. It's my own version of mindlessness, but it definitely works!

As a result, Sophie is slowly growing. If anyone's thinking of doing it, I'd definitely recommend a heavier weight yarn than the cotton I'm using. I like the effect (albeit the initial colour seems to have lasted for too long, but that may be just the impact of working in the round). For the level of effort, I still think this will come up too small - I may end up doing 4 and then joining them together.

Wow, that sounds a bit like the Quaker chocolate companies Bruffin, I always thought that ethos sounded idealic but maybe a bit claustrophobic at times..

InTheNightWeWillWish Embrace the crafting breaks for the sake of your blood pressure! Your mum must have been thrilled with her cushion even if her taste in dog/cow pictures is questionable Grin, it's lovely! Glad you found textile garden useful and I hope your DH enjoys his jumper with sheep buttons Wink

That's lovely BookShark! I like the way it looks with the dark center.

I hear you CrochetBug I'm so glad I'm not young now, it's seems like there's so much more pressure to conform compared to before social media.

Ooh, nightmare Leaningtoweroflisa, sound lovely though. I said I'd never make anything with mohair and now I appear to be surrounded by it!

lucysmam awh, Errol's growing up Grin still very cute though!

I'm still waiting for Hedwig's eyes and my wool order so I've started a cardigan for spring. It wasn't on my list but the sleeves are mindless TV knitting and I can't face picking up my laceweight project for more than a couple of rounds at a time.

lucysmam · 23/03/2021 10:34

Bookshark your Sophie's looking lovely.

I was brave & took Errol's lid off for a better pic of his wings. They're so pretty now they're darkening 🥰

I'm half way through the back of the cardi for dd1 now - finally managed to add the second ball without creating an extra stitch Confused. I've got an hour before going back to work & not much else to do so am going to try and get to row 35.

@lucysmam Errol is gorgeous! I don't dare show DS a picture of him because he'll be nagging for one of his own Grin
The cardigan looks amazing. You've nailed the cable! I had a lovely knitted cable cardigan as a child. My mum had to keep making me new ones when I outgrew it. Then she "lost" my last one when she couldn't size it up any more (or possibly couldn't afford to make a bigger one) as I refused to stop wearing it. I'm tempted to find a photo and try and make a crochet version myself!

I've finished the main part of my friends baby blanket. Just those blasted ends to sew in and a border. But I'm going to take a break from it and make some hair bobbles instead.

@BookShark Sophie is beautiful!

bookshark how far through Sophie’s are you? It’s looking lovely. You can see the incredible detail on each stitch even though it’s whirl.

lucysmam Errol looks lovely. I imagine DH would also want one if I showed him a photo and two dogs is plenty... we don’t need more pets.

crochetbug I love the baby blanket. The tulips are so sweet. It’s looks really snuggly.

For some reason, I decided to make my in-laws a dragon and dragon egg each for Easter. They’re nerds so so like dragons but still I’m not sure what possessed me. Anyway I finished FIL’s dragon and egg last night. MIL’s dragon needs stitching together but I can’t face doing it tonight and I need to do her egg. Or maybe they have to share an egg 🤷‍♀️ My amigurumi is still a bit wonky but the only way I’ll get better is practising. I’m going to work on my bits and pieces for the care home tonight and revisit dragons tomorrow.

Do any of you have a dolls house?

My friend's just bought one (for her boys Wink) & I thought they might like some little blankets for the beds or something along thosr lines.

I wondered if someone might measure a dolls house bed for me?

Buntyforgirls · 23/03/2021 21:35

Beautiful blankets @CrochetBug and @BookShark

lazylinguist · 23/03/2021 21:55

Errol looks beautiful with his wings!

@Leaningtoweroflisa - I hope you manage to pick up those fluffy stitches. Dropped stitches are the worst - I shriek and rant if I drop stitches, and I'm normally quite a calm person!

OP posts:
Leaningtoweroflisa · 23/03/2021 22:56

I think I’ve rescued them, thanks lazy, not 100% sure I won’t have to repair it further down the line but when I looked at it in daylight rather than by boob light it didn’t look quite as bad! I did some shrieking and ranting alright at my stupidity at breaking the needle... I dropped the stitches doing something inept while trying to site a rescue line.

Damn fluffy mohair! Went back to knitting blanket squares instead, alternating them with the endless jumper of doom... plus I have to make sure to keep reading these threads. It is so soothing and inspiring seeing all the amazing things everyone is making- I can feel my stress levels dropping.

Errol is such a looker!

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 24/03/2021 08:23

Beautiful CrochetBug!

Your IL's sound brilliant InTheNightWeWillWish Grin cool dragon too...

I've got all Hedwig's bodyparts knit except her legs which are giving me a bit of trouble. I've pinned the wings on but I think I need to steam them to lie better before I sew them. The eyes did my head in and she looks frankly confused but DS isn't that fussy.

Oh my gosh @FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack that is absolutely adorable! my mum would love that - If only I could knit 😭😂
I don't think she looks confused! she looks very wise 😍

lazylinguist · 24/03/2021 10:11

Hedwig looks lovely and not at all confused, I don't think!

I'm listening to the Harry Potter audiobooks in Spanish atm and I literally just this morning listened to the bit where Hedwig dies Sad so your photo made go 'Awww!'

OP posts:
CrochetBug · 24/03/2021 11:08

Hedwig looks fab!

@lazylinguist I remember reading that bit when the book was first released. My friend was looking after baby DS so I could read uninterrupted and tell her what happened. (She was too lazy to read it despite claiming she's the biggest HP fan ever Hmm)
I read that bit and just shouted "no no no. You didn't." And burst into tears Grin

I'm doing the border on my flower blanket while on hold to the electric company. Rang the number on the website, sat on hold, spoke to someone who said I'd ring the emergency department so would put me though to the right one. 20 mins on hold again. Spoke to someone else. Wrong department but they'll put me through to the right one. Back on hold. Let's hope its 3rd time lucky! At least the hold music is good.

lazylinguist · 24/03/2021 11:21

My friend was looking after baby DS so I could read uninterrupted

Ahhhh I remember the urgency of reading each newly-released HP book, especially the last one! Shock at your friend claiming to be a massive fan but not bothering to read the book! I have lost count of how many times I've read the books and seen the films (in combinations of 4 languages Blush). I haven't watched any of the films in Spanish yet. I keep trying to get dd15 to watch them with me, but we don't end up doing it because ds12 isn't up to that level of Spanish yet and doesn't want to, and it seems mean to watch without him, so we end up watching them in English for tye gazillionth time!

OP posts:
CrochetBug · 24/03/2021 11:41

They are my ultimate comfort books, although I've only read them in English. Like the great JKR said "Hogwarts will always be there to welcome you home". So true! We are all massive Potterheads here, hence DS2s annoyance at all the official Ravenclaw merch being the wrong colors. Which reminds me I must add some Ravenclaw yarn to my next order so he can finally have a scarf !

sophs29 · 24/03/2021 11:44

An ex bought me all the Harry Potter books in a lovely set, but I haven't read them yet Blush because I've watched all the films (a billion times) I was worried I wouldn't be able to fully immerse myself into the books without picturing the film if that makes sense! Now you're making me want to read them!!

lazylinguist · 24/03/2021 11:50

I love the films, but the books are so so much better! There are characters that are better in the books, plus lots of things that the films miss out (they had to tbh, or they'd have been much too long).

OP posts:
CrochetBug · 24/03/2021 11:53

The books are a billion times better! A billion billion times!!!

lazylinguist · 24/03/2021 11:53

This all reminds me that, as well as my current WIPs and lots of other patterns in my Ravelry queue, I have a whole book of HP patterns which I got for Christmas. Maybe I'll make a Hedwig too! I'm also tempted by making Fluffy, but he looks like the hardest pattern in the whole book!

OP posts:
sophs29 · 24/03/2021 11:58

I might have to start them at some point! maybe when DS starts nursery and I have time 😂 oooh fluffy! That would be so cute!

lazylinguist · 24/03/2021 12:42

Here are Fluffy and Hedwig from my pattern book.
