Having a bit of a nerdy moment doing my CAL this evening. I love how most of the stitches are based on a treble crochet and that one stitch can create so many different textures and looks. And that’s before you get into yarn weight and material 🤓

Introducing Anderson the Seal

I'm procrastinating making amigurumi because I can't decide on yarn or colours for a baby blanket for a friend.

lucysmam · 06/02/2021 20:46

Ooh, Anderson is very sweet! Are they from a book tizwoz?

What colours do you have to pick from? Or should that be; what colours don't you have? Grin Does your friend like any colour(s) in particular?

tizwozliz · 06/02/2021 21:07

Most of the animals I've done are from Animals Friends of Pica Pau or Pica Pau 2.

I'm going to make this blanket

www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/rainbow-ripple-baby-blanket

I can't decide between rainbow colours, rainbow colours but each colour separated by white, or a gradient of blue to green

givemebooks · 06/02/2021 21:11

@tizwozliz hi Anderson!! You look amazing!!

I have had a lovely afternoon of crochet finished part 2, sewed in my ends and ploughed on into part 3 managed the popcorn section before deciding to call it a night!

Anderson is brilliant!
I've just finished Part 2 of the CAL. Will start part 3 tomorrow.

@givemebooks that's looking really good! I'm impressed with the sewing in ends as you go. I've discovered I'm not keen on the sewing part of crochet Hmm

tizwoz I like rainbow colours & the white in between to separate them.

Could someone have a quick read of the screenshot I've attached; for the first row of yarn B (my rainbow one), to attach it - I'll need a slipknot for a loop to grab? I yarn over with A (which is white) then hook through both top loops & pick up the rainbow one & carry on with the rainbow one?

I think I understand it so am going to have a go & see how I get on. I'm just not 100% sure about whether I need the slipknot & it'll work. We'll see...

@tizwozliz Anderson is adorable!
I made that blanket but not quite as big! It was my first ever crochet project and I stupidly didn't do the magic circle properly so it all started to unwind haha! oh well we live and learn!

@givemebooks that looks great! I've just finished doing the row of 'popcorns', I love how much of an impact those stitches have!

lucysmam · 06/02/2021 21:27

Hmm, well, no slipknot looks neater & isn't as bulky but; if the loose end gets pulled, will it all unravel Confused.

Anywho...row 1 is done! I'm rather pleased with myself. It's quite evenly tensioned & neat.

CrochetBug · 06/02/2021 21:30

@lucysmam that screenshot makes no sense to me at all Confused

I change colour by hooking the new colour on the last part of the last stitch on the row im finishing. No slipknots needed.

CrochetBug · 06/02/2021 21:32

Oh cross posted. It will only be on that first colour change that you have a loose end. As long as you sew it in firmly it will be fine.

lucysmam · 06/02/2021 21:34

That's what I've done, thank you (again) CrochetBug ! Maybe I should have picked something else that was less confusing Grin 🙈

CrochetBug · 06/02/2021 21:46

But then you'll never learn how to do the more complicated stuff! Grin

lucysmam · 06/02/2021 21:52

Very true!

Nervousdave · 06/02/2021 23:58

Finished repairing my friends crochet blanket during DS nap this morning. Started my 2019/20 temperature blanket this evening, first time using a foundation stitch instead of a chain, but I was grateful as I lost count about 10 times and would have definitely twisted a chain 🤦🏻‍♀️ hoping to do at least two rows a night so will take less than a year...
Thanks for the circular needles advice, I looked at a lot of patterns and tutorials and I still don't really understand how they work 🙈
Love the look of the cowl for the KAL if I'm bored of crochet/my blanket by then!

CrochetBug · 07/02/2021 07:31

I love the look of that cowl as a potential KAL. Not that I can actually knit, but I want to learn!

I think I've got RSI in my wrist from crocheting Shock. I had it a couple of years ago (at least thats what then bfs Grandma said it looked like). It hurts and is swollen Sad. I dont know if I should just buy a wrist support and keep crocheting, or take a break for a few days and so some housework colouring instead Hmm

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 07/02/2021 08:55

I'd take a break Crochetbug, you don't want to do permanent damage and you could if you keep on.

lucysmam · 07/02/2021 09:03

I think I'd take a break too & let it rest a little :)

CrochetBug · 07/02/2021 09:42

Waaaaahhhhhhhh. Of course you are all right. I Will rest it for a few days. And try and speak to the GP about it too.

lazylinguist · 07/02/2021 10:21

Oh no, CrochetBug! I hope it's better soon.

NervousDave - it's definitely worth getting to grips with circular needles! What is it you don't get about them - how to use them or how to choose the right ones (I remember you asked about cable length/needle size before)?

Ignore the patio that needs a good clean but woohoo! I finished the back and I'm waiting for them to dry so I can seam them. It's nice and breezy today so won't be long hopefully, I've already had them in the spinner so they're 70% of the way there.

Sorry CrochetBug it really sucks Sad

lucysmam · 07/02/2021 12:15

Flavia they look fantastic! What's underneath them? I saw similar, on a fb group I've joined, last night.

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 07/02/2021 12:26

Thanks! Smile They’re the interlocking foam mats you get for babies, you can buy specific ones for knitting but they’re £££. I bought a kids multipack to put under the paddling pool and kept two back for this.

Kate105 · 07/02/2021 12:38

I love the look of the cowl for a future KAL @FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack! Love that it’s knit in the round because I do avoid straight needles now when possible because I’m lazy Happy to wait until the CAL is further along though, I’ve plenty to be getting on with in the meantime!

lazylinguist · 07/02/2021 12:39

Beautiful, Flavia! I can't imagine putting anything out to dry at this time of year where I live. Grin Yup, sleeting.
