Floor (carpet) protection for messy painting ideas, please!

I am fortunate enough to have a 4th bedroom that I do my sewing and art in.

It used to have a manky old carpet in there which I didn't mind getting paint on, but an upgrade means I now would!

DH is in there at present, WFH, but I have enough room to still do my stuff; I'd begun to do acrylic pours which you may know can be quite messy.

What can I cover the carpet with? It needs to be waterproof, reasonably durable, continuous, not too visually disturbing (Grin) and preferably not too thick so won't cause a trip hazard and preferable won't snag the door (though that's less of an issue).

Any ideas?

shower curtain - cheap plastic one or thin plastic table cloth?

There is that really thick plastic mat stuff with pointy bits to anchor it into your carpet so it doesn’t move but would it be flexible/waterproof enough? I’d worry about paint dripping off the edges.

For something as messy as a pour, maybe an inflatable paddling pool just bigger than your canvases, with a waterproof flat dust/painters sheet or camping tarp underneath as belt & braces?

The paddling pool one is a good idea!

Big old pvc type tablecloth works a treat Grin

Dunelm do clear plastic table cloths on a roll you can buy by the metre. We've got one on our table, it was only about £6 and is thick and waterproof, it's stood up to my DC constantly painting and crafting on it. You could secure it down with rug tape

For anything really messy you could use a large tuff tray- meant for messy play. My daughter uses it for acrylics etc. Also shower curtain/ plastic table cloth good cheap coverage. You can also get rolls of sticky carpet covering for decorating. That would work too.
