Paint by numbers

This has been one of my lockdown hobbies. I’ve done quite a few of the “generic” ones that you can choose from (one example attached).

You can also upload photos which they turn into a canvas. Was a bit sceptical, but did one of my sister, her husband and their dog as a surprise present. Was so impressed with the end result (won’t post picture as not right to publish their image). It was really weird to see them coming to life !

Might be a nice idea to think of if you’ve got any photos you’d like to recreate for yourself or a gift for someone.

I can’t draw for toffee, so doing this has been a great way to be creative and switch off from the outside world!

These look great! 😊

That lion is lovely!

I have a very similar cross stitch of a different animal as one of my birthday presents tomorrow. Can't wait to get my hands on it.

Can I ask for a link to the site you used please?

Furries · 13/01/2021 23:51

@UpShutTheFuck - I’ll admit, I’m useless at doing links! The place I’ve ordered from is called VictoriasMoon. The site is split in two parts. One is standard Paint by numbers, the other is Diamond Painting (looks like cross-stitch, but uses tiny coloured crystals).

Both have generic canvases and both will create canvases from photos. I think they get shipped from Asia, so allow around 2 weeks between ordering and delivery. But the quality of canvas/paint/crystals Are all good (and they normally have 3 for 2 offers on).

Shout if you want any more info.

Thank you @Furries

I'll have a look later (when I have finished gazing lovingly at my new cross stitch kits)

Furries · 14/01/2021 12:03

@UpShutTheFuck - no worries, enjoy your new cross stitch kits. If you want an idea of what the diamond painting looks like, I did a separate thread re them on here a few days ago. With these, the larger the canvas, the better the detail otherwise it can look really pixelated (probably the same with cross stitch).

@DanceWithYourBalloon - thank you, I really enjoyed doing them and it’s been a great way to switch my mind off.

I just hope the finished version bears some resemblance to the picture on the packet Grin

🤣 - you’ll have to post a photo when you’re done. How big is it and how long would it normally take you to do?

I did a 60x90 sized one of my friends horse as a Christmas present (diamond painting). Worked out it was approx 72,500 crystals and took me around 250 hours 😲

It's 50 x 66 cm. Bigger than anything I have done before so who knows Grin I'd like to think that we won't still be in lockdown when I get to the end.

It's printed fabric rather than a coded chart so that might be challenging. I didn't notice that when I chose it.

I think I would quite like to have a go at diamond painting - lots of kits came up when I was browsing, I'd not heard of it before.

YY ti being out of lockdown soon. I’ll use your progress on the picture as to when lockdown will finish!

Definitely give it a go, am sure you’ll like it. If you do try it, and decide you want to continue doing more, I highly recommend getting a light box. They’re under the accessories section on that website. I got an A3 one (think it was about £30). It makes it SO much easier to see all the symbols clearly and has been well worth the money.

I'm really not sure that is wise Grin

@UpShutTheFuck - how’s your project coming along? Do you think you’ll be finished by 21 June? 🤣

That sounds like a truly rewarding experience! Engaging in activities like Paint by Numbers during challenging times like lockdown not only provides a creative outlet but also offers a sense of accomplishment and joy.

Turning personal photos into canvases adds a unique touch, making the artwork even more special. It's fascinating how these kits can transform a simple image into a detailed painting, capturing the essence and emotions of the moment.

Your sister, her husband, and their dog must have been overjoyed to receive such a thoughtful and personalized gift. It's these heartfelt gestures that truly resonate and create lasting memories.

Your sentiment about not being able to draw but still finding a way to express creativity is shared by many. Activities like Paint by Numbers bridge the gap, allowing individuals to tap into their artistic side without the pressure of starting from scratch.
