Last year we made lots of clay christmas tree decorations with cookie cutters, painted them with metallic paints and holographic glitter and attached posh ribbon - was v. effective.

Need ideas for this year. What are you making with your children?

When dd1 & dd2 lived here we did;

Pot pourri jars (good for grannies, aunties etc) - clean jam/coffee jars (you can get some nice ones), fill with pot pourri, top with a crocheted doily (I crocheted my own using silver goldfingering to look like snowflakes) & tie with a sliver ribbon. 'cos it's in a pretty jar with a fancy cover there's no need for the recipient to find a bowl for it. xmas scented pot pourri is nice & it's easy to refill. Cover the top with clingfilm to stop it losing its scent until the big day.

pen/coin holders (for grandads & uncles) - empty coffee mate or mini pringles cans. Cover them in pva glue & wind chunky wool around from bottom to top so the whole thing is covered. Decorate with googly eyes, pipe cleaners, felt to make reindeer, monsters, birds, whatever.

We also wrapped little scented candles in those tulle circles from wedding favours & decorated with flowers, leaves, berries etc on florist wire. You can make little gift tags to attach with ribbon too.

This year I need things that 2.7yo dd3 & (almost 1yo!) ds can 'help' with. I like the idea of the footprint cards Also we have a bag of shells that the dcs collected a few weeks ago - do you think they'd be okay to stick on clay tree ornaments?
