Hello all I haven't knitted in almost 2 decades & I am trying to knit now to occupy my mind. But unfortunately, due to an acquired brain injury, I can not remember how to read a pattern. I would sincerely appreciate help in understanding the attached pattern, please. Thanks

K = knit
P = purl

The instructions in the brackets for each row have to be repeated the number of times stated after the brackets. So for row 1: knit 7, purl 7 . Repeat this 4 times then knit a further 7 stitches. On row 2, purl 7, then knit 7, purl 7. Repeat the knit 7, purl 7 four times.

Then repeat the relevant rows the number of times stated i.e. repeat row 1 and then row 2 for 5 times. This will give you 12 rows.

Then work row 13, row 14 and repeat these 2 rows 5 times, giving you 24 rows.

24 rows form one 'pattern' so after row 24 begin again at row 1.

Continue to knit in patterns of 24 rows. At around 88cm in length you should be at row 11 of the 24 row pattern. After working row 11, cast off following the pattern stitches.

I am doing row 1. But once I have knitted 7 & pulled 7, 4 times, I am left with 28 stitches, not 7 stitches to knit. I am sure I am getting something wrong ain't I?

I was wrong too! Row 1 should be knit 7, purl 7 4 times in total then knit 7 NOT knit 7, purl 7 then repeat four times! That'll teach me to try and multitask

Row 1 should be :
knit 7, purl 7 (14 stitches)
Knit 7, purl 7 (28 stitches)
Knit 7, purl 7 (42 stitches)
Knit 7, purl 7 (56 stitches)
Knit 7 (63 stitches)

Back in a minute to correct any other mistakes!

Row 2:
Purl 7
Knit 7, purl 7 (21 stitches)
Knit 7, purl 7 (35 stitches)
Knit 7, purl 7 (49 stitches)
Knit 7, purl 7 (63 stitches)
