HIYA - Im thinking of buying a buisness advert here on MN (im a regular!!) & selling on ebay. Could you have a look and tell me if you think my stuff would sell & decide prices and stuff... (long!) ...

Im not looking to start an empire, lol - just maybe raise some extra for christmas.

Ithink they would make great christmas pressies.

Basically I buy wooden letters and paint them.

Ive added some examples below (and some other examples of my drawings that i could use in the designs) Like the spiderman one.

Im thinking I would ask the buyer to order the wooden letters themselves (i would supply link to the site i use) and then they pay for them and have the letters sent directly to me.

They choose the design.

Then I would charge per letter - depending on the size of the letter (they range from an inch high to 8 inches high!)

The ones I have below are 6 inches high.

What do you think? Ive only done these for friends and relatives as presents.

I also have a 'sea side' theme Ethan, but dont have pics yet as its on my cousins wall.

And if they may sell what should I charge?

Only problem i can see is that the letters alone can be pricey so they may think its too much ££ with my work on top IYKWIM??

They are very nice and I think they would sell well (at the right price of course). I think it is a bit late in the year to make much of a profit before christmas, depending on how fast you can do them.

i thikn they look great ! would love something like that for my Dcs

how much do the letters cost each? and how much time owuld it take? is the paint costly?

i have seen little letters , painted, in shops for around £1.50 each

a whole name - 5 letters takes about 1.5 hours ( i started tyler last night and finished that much later)

maybe not for xmas then - just in general!!

Its just acrylic paint - can get a set in quality save for £2ish.

the letters are six inches high and cost about ..

£1.25 each for six inch

plus around £5 p&p for them to get to me for each set of letters

I think that ordering the letters might put people off- they would have to pay the letter company and you separately, presumably. I think you'd do better if it was a single payment/order to be honest.

so, you have to pay £5 P&P for every order of letters, whether it is 4 or 44? if so, then order as many as you can afford

yea - i would just have to work out how much it would be per letter for me to buy inc p&p - then add what i would like to make for painting and charge a full inclusive price per letter?

Agree with Tamum - I think they look amazing but I would be put off with having to order the letters myself and then send them to you. You would be better off getting a wholesale deal on letters and providing the whole service at once IYSWIM

This is interesting as I've just been looking at selling stuff I produce on ebay & decided not to as the costs mean it's not really worth it for me. What with the ebay insertion & selling fees and the Paypal fees the profit was small.
It's a lot of effort when you also consider the trips to the post office etc. You might find it more cost effective to put up ads in local shops instead or do a school fair. Have you worked out what your profit would be once you've taken off the cost of materials & fees?

im going to have a good think about it tonight and work it all out.

I would like to do it anyways as i enjoy it.

but i think i would aim at a high end market - as i think my painting are quite good and detailed.

£6 per 6 inch letter.

• P&P of £3 inclusive on top.

(after costs and also looking on ebay)

£21 for a 3 letter name incl delivery.. does seem dear, even for something hand made.. or maybe i am way off the mark

I was having a trauma about selling my cards on ebay and someone suggested etsy.com. It's worth having a look at as they only sell handcrafted stuff.

I haven't got round to doing anything about it yet but I think their fees seem a bit more reasonable than ebay.

The letters are gorgeous - I'm sure people would pay for the personalization. My personalized cards sell better than the others. In either Letterbox or GLT (I can't remember which) they have mass produced letters for £4 each!

Yes but they are not tiny, or just stenciled.

There are palin pink 8 inch ones on ebay for £8.

No time or effort has gone into them! Just pink paint and a mini roller

Yes, people happily pay stupid amounts for mass made stuff, so handmade is much nicer and time consuming and thoughtful i think.

£6 a letter?

Would make my dd's name £45 including the postage.

Not a hope in Hell that I could pay that even if I thought they were worth it.
