My daughter wants to be a worm for Halloween and I don't know where to start!

As above, I need to make a worm costume for Halloween. I have almost no sewing experience, do not own a sewing machine, and not have an awful lot of free time either (young twins). However, I am keen to do this for her if I can. Does anyone have any ideas?

I was considering a series of pink pillowcases sewn together (but what about her legs?) Is this mad? She's only about 90-100cm tall so I shouldn't need many!

Pink leotard or plain pink t shirt, pink tights/leggings, pink tights cut into a balaclava type arrangement for her head. Easy and wearable

Yes, concentrate on a head piece. Maybe you could also sew a loop (like a section from a old pair of socks) to each hip so,she can put her arms in so they are attached to her body.

Pink leggings, pale pink puffy body warmer or jacket with the sleeves cut off? Get trawling eBay now!

When my DS wanted to go as Jabba the Hut I sent him in a sleeping bag with a brown face. Don't be me.

Knittedfairies · 04/10/2020 19:21

I'd go with pink tights, pink t shirt, and then some tubular jersey fabric (like this from the top of her head to her feet. With a space cut out for her face/arm holes. Minimal sewing...

RedSauceSpaghetti · 05/10/2020 10:33

Oh thank you all so much for your replies. This is so helpful!

@knittedfairies I didn't even think to look for tube fabric. That would make things much much easier!

I have measured her this morning and will see how I get on with some plans.

If all else fails, I can cover her in dirt and tell everyone she's fresh out of the ground, right? Grin

I’d buy some pale pink Lycra. Sew it up into a tube and cut a hole for a face

Pink shift dress or oversized (adult) T shirt.

Sew some rings gathered in a little bit - three or four depending on the size.

You could use a sharpie to draw more 'rings'.

Aww a worm is a really cool idea! Not the easiest to make though, good luck 😄

HelpMeh · 05/10/2020 11:02

Whatever you do, just make sure she doesn't end up looking like a penis Blush

Heartofglass12345 · 05/10/2020 11:07

I was also thinning with some of these suggestions she may end up looking like a penis Blush I don't have anything helpful to say lol

madcatladyforever · 05/10/2020 11:10

Little hoops with fabric stretched over. A pink balaclava with large googly eyes and antenna.

madcatladyforever · 05/10/2020 11:10

if the hoops are quite large she should be able to walk ok.

Choconuttolata · 05/10/2020 11:14

That was my thought too heartofglass

Maybe a brown worm might be better 😂

Hoppinggreen · 05/10/2020 11:16

Then she will be a BAME penis, not sure that’s any better

Choconuttolata · 05/10/2020 11:21

True hopping green, it isn't much better. 🙈

Bellesavage · 05/10/2020 11:30

Make her wear an apple costume with a worm in it otherwise it'll be penis/name penis/massive shit

SilenceOfTheEmu · 05/10/2020 11:42

Be careful she doesn’t end up looking like a penis

OP your opening post made me laugh, why do our kids come up with such random things

this is hilarious If all else fails, I can cover her in dirt and tell everyone she's fresh out of the ground, right? Grin

My nephew went as a worm for Halloween once. My dsis made the costume out of natural tan tights, with a brown long sleeve t shirt and brown leggings under.

RedSauceSpaghetti · 05/10/2020 15:32

Noooooo she can't go looking like a penis!! Blush I'll have to make sure there's time for a trial run! Grin

Some of these hoop ideas are really good. Can I use a permanent marker on fabric or does it need to be fabric pen?
