Don't necessarily mind buying a book or two.

I feel I should start knitting for baby no 3, plus also the other 2 babies that my friends have just announced but just cannot find anything that grabs me.

I have pretty much knitted the erica knight cherished babies book-don't want to repeat that really, most of the patterns are too simple and it does mean that the stuff is a bit boring to do, and not that nice really. Did consider adding cables to some of those patterns but...really...am wanting no-brain knitting atm tbh.

I don't massively like gimicky stuff like hats shaped like moose (obv berry hats are different-the dc have LOTS of those)

This is a jan/feb baby so I actually have an excuse to go out and buy yarn but...am just not feeling enthused.

I can do most things, intrasia and cables and etc etc. Am a little afraid of lace after a nasty experience with barbara walker, but hey, it can't be that hard.

Thoughts?

Have you tried the crafts section in your library?
Ours has lots of lovely books, and its ok to photocopy a couple of pages for a pattern for your own personal use. I checked that with the librarian. Cos each knitting book only ever has just one pattern that 'inspires' me which is a blooming expensive way of buying a pattern!

Filly, have a look at the Sublime baby books. I think it's all made by Sirdar but they have some really pretty patterns in there. There are a couple of dedicated baby books and the odd one in the general books. I think they're about 6 or 7 quid. I made the ballet cardigan on the front of one here (you have to scroll down) and it was very sweet looking. Also worth looking on Knitty of course, but I don't have to tell you that!

oh fabulous! And by a stroke of good fortune I need to go to Bristol on Thursday, thusly a trip to getknitted is inevitable...

I need something that will keep my interest, thats the problem. So I need cables and so forth.

Right now I have broken my knitters block to a small extent-am making center square in what I THINK is cashmerino dk, so it is coming out pretty small.

OTOH I have realised a significant advantage to the age gaps of my kids. WHATEVER size the thing is, it will fit SOMEONE
